Indeed.. I am impressed as well. So far these two:

are leading the way when it comes to size for me. I don't think the iPhone 6 could compete to be honest.. it will be much taller : (
Sony will probably get very close with the compact..
The only thing that worries me is heat management.. there isn't much room in there to cool the chips off, but I am sure they've done their testing.

This means nothing.

@Abhi
We'll see which one sells better...
The HW differences are clear... but that's not all.
The Alpha is the first device which come very close to the iPhone.
I'm very excited. Samsung made the first step. Sony and compact is not compact! It's to thick and bulky. I prefer a bit longer and thinner...
Still dreaming of a Z Ultra mini edition.

Regarding the alpha
I will never ever buy a phone with Exynos SoC again, and there's a 95% chance that I will never buy a Samsung again
Design is indeed better than all other Samsung phones, but hell we already have much better designs by Sony and even HTC long time ago !!

@king-james
I hope Galaxy Alpha manages to cross even 5-6 hrs on that paltry 1860 mAh battery (serious side effect of anaroxeic body) and such a heavy battery sucking Exynos processor.
Good luck on that

The thinness doesn't mean a thing. The battery capacity is shit compared to Z3c

A phone being to thin and light to me anyway makes the device seem fragile I prefer my phone to have a bit of weight to it personally I feel it adds to the quality feel of a phone and the thickness as long as it isn't to thick is more than acceptable if it means other features won't be compromised.

why are they using those cutouts on top like on iphone, if the back is not metal, can't they just place antennas there?

Now it's pretty much clear, objectively in general, z3c>rest. aside of that there is personal preference.
there is nothing in alpha that would make me choose it over z3c. i would not choose a phone just because its slimmer and i don't like heart rate and fingerprint scanner silly gimmicks. generally there is no better compact flag then z3c in android world it seems. actually z1c is still z3c toughest rival. sony is just about to outdo themselves.
