Another 1 billion investment to cross modem licensed from Ericsson
http://www.androidauthority.c[....]icsson-might-disappear-121140/
Btw, I'm not sure if Sony had been cross modem licensed altogether with mobile since

acquisition day.

Well seeing how Sony and Ericsson have a strong relationship, they might be more keen on selling STE to Sony before anyone else. Of course

How much will it cost to buy ST-E ??
I hope sony buys it, but sony has already done lot of shopping lately. can they buy this now?
But the other problem is they are other companies who will bid more than sony's amount i believe

Around 2 Billion. And Sony won't shop anymore this financial year. Only in FY 2013-14 Sony can start shopping again

Sony already spent billions of USD for purchasing Geikai, Olympus's Stake, EMI in just a very short period
Even S&P downgraded their credit rating, I doubt that Sony will go further on purchasing ST-Ericson
Also, ST-Ericson is on a losing track, they can't compete with Qualcomm's Snapdragon, I don't think Sony buying ST-Ericson anytime soon
It's better for Sony to start another Joint Venture with ST-Ericson on making CPU chips, this will help them to stop rely on Qualcomm and differentiate their offering, without high cost

There are rumours about Samsung buying ST-ericsson. They need the modem part for their exynos. They will probably close down the processor side of it and just keep the modems if that happens. Or Ericsson can just pull out their modem business and team up with Samsung, "Samsung-Ericsson"

The Samsung Galaxy S III mini, which would be announced tomorrow, would run on a STE U8420 SoC. Anyone has any info about this SoC since the current talk is about STE?

Can't find any info about it, or my Google-fu is weak.

aurelius, does your friend know if Sony is going to use the Novathor A9600 in any Xperia phone next year?

He also said that he would take the Xperia P every day of the week compared to the leaked Samsung mini. MOstly because of the aluminium chassi and much better camera!

Well, if the leaked specs and photos be true, I guess Xperia P is much better specs-wise and, of course, in design. The S III has some edge though, with its AMOLED display, larger battery and Android 4.1. But then again, with Samsung's proven marketing strategy, this phone may be a blockbuster even if there are other better options like the Xperia P.
Anway, thanks for the info!
