What ajack just said regarding current uiq3 phones, that is the same i have been saying, should please all people that invested in p990, m600, w950...these phones will have roughly the same OS of the p700 or whatever it will be called, based on a much more memory efficient version of symbian (9.3).

If this is true, my next phone won't be a Sony Ericsson.

Same thing here... I'm buying p700 or Sofia if they come out during the summer... If not, I guess it's some nokia for me, N95 most likely...

The N73 really has a superb battery life! It's better than the W800i, that's for sure.

-----
Well as far as I know, the N73 has 4 days in standby, that's as much as my W800 lasted in normal use when I got it, and I was listening to music a lot. Now it's about a half of what it used to be.

Anyway, yes, N73 is definitely better than W800, no point in making a comparison but still isn't good enough for me to change it. After all, it does cost a fair amount of cash.

My point was that SE makes phones with very good battery life. Like the K810 with 10 hours in talk time-that's impressive, a phone which never lets you down. I hope they keep this up.

3. All other UIQ phones the R&D have been working on have all been scrapped. Even the non-touch screen UIQ3 phone. I was told they scrapped a few prototype designs since the W950 came out until Elena.

5. SE will be cutting down the number of phone it will release this year. They have decided to consolidate the models instead of offering many derivatives of the same "base" design. What this means is that, we will still see a lot of phones from SE this year, just not as many as SE had originally planned.

LOL,most of it looks quite terrible and not quite reasonable when recent SE politic comes to mind.I don't believe it,no way.

I guess this year is when SE starts HSDPA but next year is when it will really cover the portfolio. Not having HSDPA in your only smartphone is a little weird. Scrapping all smartphones including the non touchscreen ones is a weird move. Although looking at the current lineup, maybe just maybe, se realised it wasn't keeping the pressure where it used to make reall gains. So maybe sofia will come faster seeing the W880 can't do it all alone.

Scrapping the bravia branding is fine with me. I'd guess it would be blended in with the Walkman range.

I don't mind branding but idecission is the biggest problem. SE can't quite decide what to do with walkman, its taking over the lineup but they obviousely aren't super comfortable with that. Scrapping generic devices is ok if the generic device lack all of One function. Scrapping the colors for the generic device isn't always a good idea. The black and green slider should be another W580 color option.

The problem is with the walkman all phones have the potential, you just have to bundle a big card and headphones, brand the phone and your done. But Sony Ericsson obviousely doesn't want to be just about walkmans. The problem is how many Cybershots can you market?

Boy I can see tons of SE employees and executives losing many hours of sleep trying to figure out how to get out of the mess they're in. You decide on a line up where a lot of platforms get reused, but then you decide to not go with twins so how do you scrap all you devices without looking like you only sell walkmans. A small solution would be some cybershots in other formfactors and to stop calling every phone a walkman.

I'm tired and I feel like I was writing in circles I hope somebody can figure out what I'm saying. Apart from I want a K550 with 3g Bed time:)

May be this isn't such a bad thing. It might mean there are more features in fewer models.

After all, who really wants 9 different models all differentiated by one or two features? Plus there is really no need to bring out so many mid-tier smartphones. Its still such a small overall percentage of volume for SE, they would be sprinkling many phones on a small percentage of consumers.

It would be nice to get back a policy of making a few phones that are crammed with top-end features. Just throw HSDPA and 3.0 in Elena and most people will be satisfied.

Don't know if this is news to those on this thread but this is what I heard from my contact.

1. The only UIQ phone announced this year will be Elena. The name P700 is not finalized yet. Lizzy was scrapped because between Elena and Lizzy, the only difference is the camera, one has it, the other doesn't.

2. Elena will be available at the end of the year only. Now, SE is focusing on getting the current UIQ3 phones working better and this will benefit current users and Elena when it comes out.

4. Bravia line of phone will be merged with an existing line of phones and will not come out separately like the Walkman range.

5. SE will be cutting down the number of phone it will release this year. They have decided to consolidate the models instead of offering many derivatives of the same "base" design. I will not be answering any questions, so don't be offended if you ask!

Makes perfect sense. I wasn't surprised to read that. All to be updated.

If the UIQ phone to be announced this year is only Elena, how about M610? That's a weird decision if M610 is for next year.
