Pros of Boot Camp
Free, developed by Apple so you know it will be compatible & have proper Windows drivers for Mac hardware (iSight, wi-fi etc.)
Cons of Boot Camp
Can't run Windows & Mac OS X side-by-side, need to reboot to switch between the two OSs.
Pros of Parallels
Allows running of Windows apps from within Mac OS X. No reboots required
Cons of Parallels
Costs money, its a third-party app, compatibility of some things isn't as high as Boot Camp (but constantly improving)

Just a quick question, I'm thinking of getting a mac mini and basically using it as a media centre. Will it do a good job at this?
Just wanna plug it into the tv and use it for dvd's, music etc...

Have a look in System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts
and see what the Dashboard key is set to. By default its F12.
You haven't got any other software running that simulates or requires the F12 key have you?

Its probably activated in a screen corner move your mouse to the four top or bottom corners of the screen if it activates then you know the reason.
Go into sys pref and and click on dashboard and check the four corners have nothing activley applied.

I would opt for something that can handle WMV HD and as the mac mini cant, I would look at something more dedicated to that.
Try this out pretty reasonably priced and works a treat with OSX. You can stream all your movies from your mac or dump your stuff on the internal or external HDD
