When they brought 7 and 7+, some ppl asked why the i7 had single cam.
Size was pointed as reason.

I can deal with single cam as the single cam on both XZ2 and XZ3 are pretty good. But what's unacceptable is that the size itself is too big to be called a compact. iPhone X and XS are only about 4 mm taller than this phone.
Others are trying to create foldable phones, new innovation in design, and quad camera, and we are out here talking about shrinking the bezels.

Maybe Sony is trying to create a "classic" look and design. Think of their camera RX100 which has kept the same design for many generations (now 6th generation). I am quite sure that Sony will not bring notch design or "hole" design - they will stay with bezels and symmetrical design. I like that they bring back the side mounted FPS, 3½mm jack and a thinner design. I think it makes sense to use 5" OLED for the compact in order to make it thin and use best technology.

XZ1 Compact: 129x64
XZ2 Compact: 135x65
XZ4 Compact: 140x66.5...
Why it is bigger? I thought OLED (if the rumour is real) allows to make bezels much smaller and what we get? Bigger bezels. STBR is probably even worse than old Compacts (~70%)
Yes, iPhone X is 143.6 (5.8") and S10 will be probably even shorter.

OLED has nothing to do with screen and body size. Its how thin they can make it. But then again, even there we are not seeing any improvments. The last compact have been z3c 8.6, z5c 8.9, xz1c 9.3, xz2c 12.1.
so it is better than xz2c but still a bit far of the mark. i would like less than 8.

Over at GSMArena.com you can read that HDM sold around 70 millions of Nokias in just two years. And Sony are selling less than 10 millions a year. On top of that, their leaked XZ4 compact looks almost the same as the z1 compact released for many years ago. That's pathetic to say the least.
The entire mobile department should get fired.

I was a big fan of
devices but the SONY Xperia models have been disappointing to say the least. I've had Xperia X10 and Xperia SP and while I liked them they were missing the je ne said quoi that gave
and
devices their character.
I suspect the product design expertise walked out the door along with the Ericsson employees during the split. SONY have technology but that is nothing without soul. Xperia devices have no soul and it shows. SE's last CEO came from SONY instead of Ericsson and he said SONY had 30 different products with 30 different cables & chargers and no battery interchangeability. Can you imagine Steve Jobs and Johnny Ive allowing that to happen at Apple? No way in hell!
There needs to be a design revamp at SONY Mobile. They need to start with working out what is their identity, what defines and differentiates them. Then they put that identity into styling and usage cases to identify with their target market. Even better if their target market has disposable income and is not being served what they really want.
I think Samsung is the Audi of phones and Apple is Porsche. SONY have been trying and failing to be Jaguar, because the market is full of competitors trying to be BMW and Mercedes. I think there is room for SONY to become a Bentley or an Aston Martin, where selling 30 - 40 million premium phones would make them plenty of profit. Nokia need to stick to being Toyota, it works well for them.
I would personally concentrate on things like:
- Using materials found in watches and jewellery like leather, carbon fibre, ceramic, crystal, gold, silver, etc.
- Convergence between personal items like a phone and wallet for example.
- Utilising recognisable UI elements from SONY brands such a Bravia, Cybershot, Handycam, Walkman and Playstation and licensing UI elements from Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere Pro, even Yamaha, Roland or Fender.
- Focusing on the relationship people have with design elements of classic cameras, record players, pocket watches, tools & utensils, and 19th century craftsmanship & engineering.
- Considering how these devices can enliven and simplify everyday communication.
Once you know who's using the device and how much they will pay for it, the hardware spec chooses itself.

Just for some perspective, the S10 Lite should be a 5.8 inch AMOLED with minimal bezels so those who are good at maths will see that the overall size is similar to the XZ2 Compact. According to the link above, this will have dual cam and massive screen and headphone jack and look thin. Probably have super slow motion as well. Why is it so hard for Sony? How comes every company in the world can do it but these stubborn Sony designers? Either the change up this year or they'll be gone because everyone has left them behind.

sony designers don't have any excuse. they were the KINGS of compact design back in the day. there's absolutely no reason why they can't do it now.
the thin vaio laptops of old are a testament to the sony design ability.. they were nearly as thin as the macbook airs are today a decade ago.
really hope they just go all out and throw that conservative mentality aside, do some radical design changes and make something happen.
