No diffrence from the P1i. If your using your phone for music you will be dissapointed.

Thanks, but I actually meant the call volume. When I'm using it as a phone, my P1i has a very quiet earpiece, so if I'm walking down a busy street I can't hear the other person! It's fine through the headset but not if I'm just using the phone.

Not too fussed about the music quality, I have an mp3 player for that..

when mphone say they're available to buy now, they usually are from what I have seen and heard though I've never bought from them... came close a few times though

I've bought from clove on and off since the days of the Psion 3 and never had a problem, never had to return anything though so can't comment on that.

They say they'll have stock on Friday so it s a question of whether you want one this week or next. Price is very similar.

I've bought the Blackberry Bold from mphone before and they were the only one's to have it available.

I'm thinking of buying the X1 and may get it from mphone cos their price seems good compared to Expansys.

I also saw that they have the TYTN 2 unlocked for only £299, which is like the X1? Does anyone know if the HTC is better than the Sony X1?

The X1 is also made by HTC. It's also called HTC Venus.
Besides that, everything except the camera is better in the X1. The camera in the X1 is probably the same 3 MP module as used in the TyTN II. I had the TyTN II and it's perfect as a business phone if you don't care much about multimedia.

So the X1 is made by HTC? I think I might buy the Unlocked HTC TYTN II from Mphone. It looks like a bargain.

The Tytn2 is nothing like the X1. You do realise the Tytn2 is like 1,5-2 years old or something?

Not true, the X1 is very similar to the Tytn II in many ways, and quite obviously descended from it with it's HTC lineage. The Tytn II is a year or so older, which is reflected in the lesser QVGA screen, less RAM etc, but it's nonetheless still a very capable Windows Mobile 6.1 powered phone with HSDPA, aGPS, 3.2mp cam, slide out Qwerty keyboard, and it's even based on an earlier 400mhz version of the same Qualcom processor found in the Xperia - so yes, it is a close relation, and can still hold its head up against the X1 (especially considering the price difference).

Really, all SE/HTC have done with the X1 is tighten up the package a little, and improve the multimedia performance with hardware drivers the Tytn II sadly lacked.

See PDAdb's comparison. Compared to the Kaiser (TyTN II), the Venus (X1) is smaller, lighter, has more RAM, faster processor, a transflective screen (important when used outdoors in bright sunlight) with higher resolution, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, FM radio, stronger battery, and is probably much, much better when playing multimedia.
