I am still confused..
Are they making a rgb version of the sensor or giving up on B/W and shipping the phone with two RGB?
XZ2P put on the B/W version, which show a huge success. Than Semiconductor department turn the it into RGB version with improved performance and start shipping it to others manufacturer. It happened ahead of XZ2P atart selling.
XZ2P is still using RGB + B/W.

Does anybody here know whether the huawei P20 uses a sony Sensor? I believe it is just either a Sony or Samsung for one of the sensor since it is capable of 960 fps.

Thanks ...
I thought imx380 was already the RGB version of this one.
It is from Q4 2017. Same 12.2MP + 1.55 micron.
I think p20 just has playback 960fps, not recording.
Because it has the imx380.
It looks very different from XZP or S9.

seems like P20 is using IMX380.
960fps on P20 or P20 Pro aren't REAL 960fps. They just slow down the video, calculate those missing frame and add back to the video.

I'm sorry that the video is spoken in Chinese. Just look at 1:33 ~ 1:56. Blurry flame, messy fan fins, broken hand.
Basically, 960fps is only possible on Stacked CMOS with DRAM and nither IMX600 or IMX380 have it.

Yeah, the only manufacturers to have 960fps super slow-mo are Sony and Samsung. P20 Pro slows down a 240 fps footage for 4 times. That's why the image quality with that mode is brighter and has less noise, because unlike XZ2 and S9, the slow-mo is fake.

Nope. Neither Sony and Samsung will sell their best CMOS to others company. Samsung have enough money to require a special version from SONY.

Thry have their own, but cant make enough.
So they pay Sony to make a imx version of their sensor.

If MWC is more important than IFA, why Sony used to show the main device in Germany instead of Spain?

You could ask similar question why they changed the naming of Xperias. Why not stay with Z and add X to it? Coz they can and they choose that having whole year to sell the device is batter than half of it. Since 810 Qualcomm's Snapdragons are shown at the beginning of the year, so devices from IFA are "old and weak" after just 5-6 months.
