Wrong. Iphone 4s/5 have software HDR, which can be achieved on any phone by using an HDR app. Z has hardware HDR, big difference.

ohh...yes. The HDR video is done by third party app called flare.

ohh I see.... so, HDR video recording is not a new feature then.

To my best knowledge IPhone only has HDR for still pictures out of the box, not recordings. Z is indeed the first to use hardware supported HDR video recording.

Oh yes, flare app. Shame it records HDR at 640x360 at 24fps and not full 1080p at 30fps
So comparing what Z can shoot and what that app can do is like saying that there is no difference between 5mpix camera and one that has VGA resolution

Not only that, this HDR from app is just a cool name, it has nothing to do with HDR. You can achieve that with any phone, record normal video then photoshop each frame to look like "HDR". That's what the app does

Well I'm not that impressed, year ago I lost my x10 in snow, it stayed there for several hours, I still have that phone and everything works fine

ohh.... then Xperia Z is the first to have a proper HDR video recording. I believe one of the reason it can do this is because of 13Mpix sensor, where the resolution can be divided to take different exposure setting.

To me, this is a very useful feature. I know for a still photo, there are a lot of trick can be done to balance to exposure when we have two extreme condition (bright backround and dark foreground), for example using flash (if you have a strong flash) and manually adjust the exposure (not the best solution) but for a video recording, this feature is really needed. Its a brilliant idea.

Talking about exposure, since there is no shutter button, how can you lock the exposure ? For example, with my current xperia, in the tricky condition, I will point the camera to an area to get a nice exposure and press the button half way (to lock it) and then move the phone to my subject and press the button all the way down. With Xperia Z, how can you do this ?

Was my concern too ( and I want ZL more).

Luckily it's easy - press and hold the onscreen button, make it lock the zoom
and than just release the button. Than it will make a photo.

You can lock the exposure by simply keeping you finger pressed on the on-screen shutter button (which also locks the focus) when you release your finger, the picture will be taken. Tried this with the xperia go, I also wondered way back then on how to lock exposure and focus without a camera button.
