Sony needs to announce the name of X1's successor's name ASAP.
There are a loy of names floating around and it's getting confusing.
S11 series leaked fully, it wouldn't hurt to announce names with a teaser. Free marketing.
12 gb ram is nice to have to match the competition but I agree no BS flagship like an iPhone SE 2 is needed.

I dont think they will make small flagship.
They dont want to cut things because of size limitations.
Apple said i7 did not have dual cam due to space.

sony doesn't like leaks. highly unlikely we'll get a name.
i hope the successor is impressive because lately I am thinking I need an upgrade. I think i've dropped my XZP too many times

I mean something that doesn't have all the bells and whistles but still a solid phone to consider. Yeah 12GB of RAM is cool and all but who needs that much really? A flagship with like 64/4 + mSD, Snapdragon 855/65, FHD(no 4K could be LCD)-not curved not too long no hole, within 72x155mm dimensions, rear fps, max 2 rear cams but good ones etc. This combo should still be more than enough for many. If priced right of course but we know sony is not going for market volume yet.
Announcing a name wouldn't be a leak. Now this 12GB phone is making headlines with Xperia 3 name, it's been a mess. How does that fit in with smaller number is better thing? Something like an all black teaser just flashing the name Xperia then 1 and II would be enough. (if it'll be 1II)

That kind of spec is almost entry level now, even if it worked great it couldn't be sold as anything more than lower mid range orbit would be ridiculed.
As for the naming, it's more like
Single digit - high end range
Double digit - mid range
Triple digit - if it's true and there is a 100 coming it'll be entry level.
Interestingly there is the Cyber shot RX range that goes
RX1 - flagship full frame compact
RX10 - high end bridge
RX100 - high end compact.
The prices go down as the number gets bigger
Then there's also the RX0 - Oddball action camera so Xperia 0 isn't out of the question. Especially since the head of cameras is also ok charge of mobile now, so I would expect to see their influence in future.

doesn't matter if we NEED 12GB at this point. if they want to stick it in there, fine. it doesn't hurt to have more. if they insist on charging top dollar for their phones, they might as well load it up with flagship specs comparable to other android OEMs.
i never understood the argument of "we don't need it". if you get more for the same price, wtf not?

For me , the cpu and amount of ram/storage is not priority.
I dont want low end,but also dont want/need 12GB or 512 storage.
Ace is almost what I'd feel satisfied with.
In couple years, base storage will be 128GB.
Even for low ends.
If you dont use much apps, you are f.....

you are a very small minority.
everyone else wants more for the money.
just cause you can survive on low end specs doesn't mean sony shouldn't release high end spec in line with other OEMs for their flagship that cost just as much as other flagships.

Well I'm not saying they shouldn't release a 8 10 12 gb ram phone. For the same price points, if one oem is offering that much then Sony also should. What I mean is like the affordable flagship thing. Like xr with SE price. As an option.
Nothing unnecessary but performs and looks like a flagship.
I'm all for more for the same price. I know sony won't do it but still I think the market needs such devices from more established brands. Flagship soc is key imo.

Ideal would be if X1 had 4/64, 6/128 and 8/256.
This would satisfy more people.
All midranges with 3/32 and 4/64.
Then you pay according to what you get.
That's the point.
Imagine a Lite version of X5.
Same device, but with 6xx and 4/64.
Would be a dream.
Low ends and midranges sell much more than flagships.
Sony might be only android that sell more flagships than midranges.
