Why do they have to wait until Q4 to give us the HD video recording? Couldn't that appear in an earlier update?

I think that is not good news, bad news for me:

1 - Q4 begins in the month of October, more than five months for a system that already works for several months and that all new HTC phones have it implemented.
2 - Update to 2.1 when it is about to get 2.2, which greatly improves the 2.1, good negotiation of RAM, 10 native flash, etc. .. etc. ..

+1 @RickyD to me the upgrade of the UXP means more than the version of Android. 2.1 is supposed to offer significant improvements over 1.6, and many of those have already been addressed by SE, as covered ad-nauseum here previously.

More encouraging for me was this section:
"I would also like to emphasise that there will be an additional smaller software update, already in the next couple of weeks aiming to enhance the usability and performance of Xperia™ X10. In the next post, I will share more details and precise timings for when this update will be released."
It seems to add wait to the hope that the Battery Life and perhaps a few other issues will be addressed before the 2.1 Update.

Please everyone bombard SE with requests for voice activated dialing that can be initiated by the BT handsfree Units..

Loving the X10.

hope they can release the firmware updates earlier.. seriously q4??? everyone will be back on iphone 4th gen.

right now i'm dealing with bad battery life, horrible charging times, crappy camera (flash doesn't even flash lol)
bad call quality, earpiece makes cracking popping noises at full volume and the mic picks up waaaaaay too much background noise...

lol the alarm clock doesn't even consistently go off...

this product is rough around the edges

@Dragoneye

- battery life isn't that bad after several charges... not sure what you mean about charge times but it charges fairly quickly for me.
- there is NO flash.. never was and never said to be. it's a photo LIGHT.
- call quality seems to be a sporadic problem as i have no issues whatsoever.. in fact people tell me i sound better now than on my old phone.
- no issues with background noise for me either
- alarm clock works fine except it will give up after 10 mins (i wish it would keep going). BUT.. i don't see how SE is to be blamed for that as i'm assuming that's the same across all android phones

@Dragoneye.

What verison of the firmware are you running?

Low Caller Volume. Hopefully the caller volume will be addressed in the forth comming firmware in a few weeks time.

-Battery Life. If you have does get better after a few charging cycles. Also you can also use application such as Power Manager, Process Manager and APNDroid to extend the battery life. I have a Nokia AC-10X (1200mh) charger and it takes about 1/2 hours to full charge the battery at the moment compared to the 3/4 hours on the standard charger (750mh)

-Camera Flash. Its a photolight not a flash as Android 1.6 i believe doesn't support camera led flashes. This will be a new feature in 2.1.

I'm not trying to create a conspiracy theory but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some sort of clause from a previous contract between SE and HTC (possibly from poor X1 sales, X1 of course been made with aid from HTC) stating that they must stay 1 generation of android behind them, hence, waiting for all the HTC models to get upto 2.2 before rolling out 2.1. But then it could just be coincidence that probably most of the capable HTC models will be on 2.2 by then. But then again it could just be because 's UI implementation has so much more depth compared to other manufacturer's customisation.

Either way, I'm not complaining, like I said before 2.1 is more than welcome and 2.2 wouldn't make too much difference to me. HD recording is a huge plus in my book and so is anythng that'll make the audio side of mediascape better, or the face recognition for that matter or the camera interface. I really want to see a return of features like panoramic mode or BestPic, but I doubt that will happen.

No conspiracy, but HTC has more experience doing Android development, more resources for Android development, and not to mention probably a better relationship with Google for Android development. HTC is able to concentrate on two primary OSs (Android/WinMo and now some Qualcomm BREW). Sony Ericsson and the little R&D resources that remain must focus on three smartphone OSs (WinMo6.5-WindowsPhone7/Android/Symbian). I am pretty sure that all of HTCs Android 2.1 devices (Legend, Desire, Nexus One, Incredible) will have Froyo on them by the time the X10 has Eclair. just my opinion though.
