BTW. In my opinion, the MP3-low-level noise is still there and hasn't been corrected, or as far as I see it they just removed the absolutely lowest volume tab. (and of course I double checked several of the MP3s on other players and in computer and they haven't got that noise)

Just updated to R1AA008. The hissing sound is still there for me too, just as much as before the upgrade.

This is especially noticeably/irritating when playing music on low soundlevel or when playing audio books. The RDS radio seems is crystal clear, but when I switch to the WALKMAN I can hear the low hissing even when no music is being played. I guess I will try to return my w800i. This is not an mp3-player.

hey guys check this reply regarding the hissing in the current F/w.

Dear JP,

Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Call Centre.

With regards to your enquiry, thank you for your feedback regarding the firmware we have released for your Sony Ericsson W800i. With firmware version R1AA008, we have not experienced the issues you have described. Please try updating your handset through our online update service, located on our website under the support page for the Sony Ericsson W800i. Once you have done this please reply with the results. If your handset still experiences the same sound quality issue, this may be due to the source of the sound/video clips. Try the play back of these clips on a PC that does not use background noise reduction software on playback. This will help you identify if the recordings are of poor quality. Please note sound/video clips taken outside may include a certain amount of background noise that will sound like hiss interference. This is most likely not interference but noise from air passing over the microphone (wind).
IF this advice does not help resolve these issues, please contact us on **** *** *** so one of our agents can advise you of our warranty repair service.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again for further help and support.

"With firmware version R1AA008, we have not experienced the issues you have described." Really. I have hissing problems with my w800i and R1AA008. And I don't think it has anything with the mp3-samplingrate to do. All my files is used in my iPod and my PC (mediaplayer) without any hissing sound.

Well,K800 is about to come..SE firmware makers are all busy improving the new phone f/w..so they might forget the hissing sound, the corrupted theme and so on..the only ways: take your phone as it is now or buy the upcoming phones. Sad,isn't it..

yngvewb,

Just read your post and that's just sad! I have the k750i and I had that hissing problem from the beginning (R1N035) and after the newest update it's still there. I could understand if it would only regard the k750i and not W800i because the W800i is called as a real MP3-player and the k750i is not, but it's just crap that a company tries to sell a product as a "MP3-player-phone" and it doesn't even perform equally good compared to the cheapest budget mp3-player on the market.

Please Sony Ericsson, correct your mistakes, because customers can't afford buying a phone for upto 400dollars just to be told to buy a newer model!

Hmmm. If that's the case, then that tells me that it's NOT the firmware. I think that we really need to consider the variation of hardware pieces in the legacy of SE K750i (and W800i) - there is obviously room for in the equation for shoddy hardware pieces (speakers, resistors, etc.) and I think that needs to be taken into account.

What if a batch of bad resistors or diodes got caught up in the production process? What if someone accidently threw in some brown brown red resisitors in the assembly line bucket instead of red red red ones?

I don't think that we should assume firmware here, that's all I'm saying.

Especially when you consider the observation of this thread (and site) which indicates the collection of people with the K750i/R1AA008 combination, not all of who are experiencing the problem.

That's just my $0.02 (CDN) of course.

Can I update my firmware with a mac?

I've never needed drivers or anything for the mac to recognise my k750, but I can only find a windows update program on seus.

Thanks,

B

i have a k750 on the r1aa008 firmware and do not have a hissing sound at all, even not with the r1n035 firmware which i must say was full of bugs and problems. i guess i'm a lucky one.
