I agree. Sony seem to invest all this time and effort improving one specific factor of the smartphone - even more specific in fact, one specific function of the camera. While other companies constantly improve all around. P20 Pro - delivers great low light, crazy zoom, bokeh, ai recognition (it's a matter of taste whether you prefer the adjustments or not) and super slow-mo (even if it is "fake" super slow mo) in like 1 year since P10. Sony meanwhile improve low light... okay they improved their software with XZ2, but they are replacing that ISP anyway and that was pretty much just catching up to the rest of the industry. I wish they would not drip-feed us improvements one at a time.. why can't they implement new lens/sensor and dual camera/ISP at the same time? They could at least try for once as it's the anniversary.
I hold some vain hope for IFA, but I've been disappointed by Sony so many times I know that chances are it will deliver bare-minimum in terms of upgrades.
And relying on 5g for reviving them is just naive, most consumers probably don't even know what 4g is. And as people have said, by the time 5g networks are commonplace (and aren't reserved for only ridiculous contract fees) all flagships will have it.

I mean, P20 Pro has some of the worst stabilization on the market, this alone makes the phone at least as flawed as XZ2P. Video recording is as important part of the camera experience as photography. AI is a gimmick, and all it does is oversaturate colours to insane levels, though definitely some might prefer it to be that way. 960 FPS is a software implementation for marketing purposes that they put out to compete with Samsung, and it looks horrendous. The only thing they nailed on is night time photography, but based on many comparisons going around from Taiwan and Japan, XZ2P is at least competitive.
Check out these video comparisons, P20 Pro is worse than S9+, U12+ and XZ2P.

Some photo comparisons, where P20 Pro shows how good it is at nighttime photography, but XZ2P easily competes and outperforms S9+, iPhone X and U12+:

So, they addressed one of their historically main weaknesses, and overall XZ2P is a very compelling package albeit overpriced.
Edit: In previously linked eprice article, they mention that in fact both sensors work all the time when shooting (google translate):
> In the case that the normal shooting brightness is sufficient, the color lens of 19 million pixels is used as the main shooting lens, and the black and white lens is supplemented to enhance the contrast and sharpness of the picture; in the mode of starting the ultra-high sensitivity, Through the black-and-white lens with f1.6 aperture and 12 million pixels, the color lens is used as a supplement to reduce the noise captured by the color lens directly, and the black and white lens "constructs the picture" and the color lens.

Sony just need reduce the oversharpening, and add a stronger HDR effect for visual appealing.
The Night Mode on the P20 is based on HDR. That is why the sky is usually overbright.
Something that Sony is doing really well and better than everyone else, is their color science and how realistic is.
But nobody cares...

Guys, please stop offtopic with chat about phones that are revealed. You are spamming this topic with redundant info. Please go discuss XZ2 generation in their respective topics.
Can we get some admin/moderators in here??
Sony H8526 spoted on Geekbench;

Could Sony be the first OEM to launch a 5G phone early next year?

Just use Snap Camera without noise reduction. What the problem, really?

YES.. as myself and others have patiently requested, for the love of SONY keep discussion about XZ2 and XZ2P in their respective threads. No, your argument that discussion the dual cam module is OK is INVALID. Why? because, it too.. is announced and is no longer a rumor. Add to that my previous point that all so called samples have been from XZ2P, they belong in XZ2P thread.
LET's get back to rumors. If there are none, then LET IT BE SO. silence is a virtue and makes the times when the thread has new posts exciting cause there's actual, relevant discussion.

After XZ2P announcement 5 FCC ID showed up.
Looks like at least 1 has jack.. This is too early for any CES/MWC device.
I could think of XZ2s/XZ3, XA2+ and R2/R2+.
But the other one?
As someone here said, they are kinda treating XZ2P as demo phone..
Any chance they get hands on 855 early december, announce before Xmas then shipping mid January?
What you guys think?
