killer, Shyam, can a virus damage the mother board? I got a new mother board, processor and ram, but cannot access xp drives. Even thru dos.
i am planning to do a white wash of the hard drive and only leave the partition with my doc intact.

tho i dont think masseur would allow it.
@gov: try using partition magic and deleting your old partition data and make a fresh partition with it and format the fresh partion. That should do the trick. DOS cannot read ntfs and fat32. you need win98 command line OS to read fat32 drives and ntfs will only work with 2000 and xp.
