personally - ive learnt a lot through this thread and i can now see why muslins are so affended (to me its only a cartoon, but its not my faith being mocked)... so i totally understand why the protests have gone on etc...

The only one thing i will say - violence is never the answer (and this is only to a small minority of all faiths/religions....) Protests should always be calm and safe - otherwise people tend to dwell on the few that go extreme.... and lose track of the real issue... i feel this has happened alot in this thread, by others and even myself...

Cheers to all that took time and effort to explain things to me (especially you amnesia )

I think its time for another song?

Awww, how sweet, a singsong!

I think the time is close for locking this thread. I'll PM a mod later today and ask them to lock this I think before we do go round in circles or any bad feelings do arise. To bring this thread to a conclusion, any final thoughts or feelings?

Or yes, song lyrics!

Yes, you either find it acceptable to threaten to kill someone for expressing a point of view or you don't.

My view? I tend to stay neutral on these kinds of things, as both sides usually have very good points. There's usually no right or wrong in these kinds of things, no one is 100% in the right or 100% in the wrong. I wanted to try to understand this better, and I think this thread has helped me to do that.

Basically as I say, the row seems to be also caused by both sides not understanding each other, Westerners not understanding how insulting that cartoon was, and Muslims not understanding Westerners that well, and taking personally a cartoon that wasn't meant to be, although I do feel that cartoon was in poor taste and was an abuse of free speech.

So you don't have a view on whether it's 100% right or 100% wrong to threaten to kill someone?

Oh, and have you actually read your sig. lately, Sammy?

I don't.

I'm sure the cartoon is in at least poor taste, if not totally offensive, but it's not an abuse of free speech.
