You can use what ever you want. Just put the directory in root. TomTom should find the mid file in there.
You should have mapsettings.cfg, a lot of *.dat files and map name with *.mid, *.pna and *.mac
The maps will not load automatically you need to load them your self as I wrote before.

I have read the thing about activation by using the KEYGEN but WHERE do I put the MAP file (*.mdi) on the P990 ??
I use TomTom Home to trasfer maps from my computer to my Memory Stick.
I'm recomanding you to buy TomTom6 if you want to use it.

Can't get the links to work on Jah's reply on previous page (originally Fatreg's post with all TT6 software / Map links etc).
Do these still work or are the links dead now?
Cheers for any help.

Do the safety camera warnings work ? It says no updates available on plus, and the booklet says you enable them simply by going to plus and tapping the saftey camera button.
Problem is ... the rest of the safety camera options are greyed out ?

like if you hav the western europe maps and map-files in a directory on your computer you just copy the whole directory (that might be named w_europe or whatever) to the root of your memorycard.
to get the device id i had to select the guam-map in tomtom settings/maps.

I'm facing exactly the same problem with my M600i and the \"Navigator 6 Software and Maps of W.E.\" DVD. I've already filed a support tracker request on their page, let's see what they say about this issue.
