On Monday. They need a rest after all that terror.
Well, the terror was about the P990 and not the P1i. Thanks Lisa.
Best regards,
Malcolm

Than u can easily sit down and wait ~1-2years ^^
The first models 9.5 will have even more bugs cause they are first.. So u will ahve to wait another 2 years for improving.. Or maybe Symbian 9.7? Dude, there is no perfect phone without bugs.. And why the hell u are sure in p1 will ahve all the same probs, or similar as in p990? Or u are the next blind Nokia fan here??
I haven't used a Nokia since the 8210 and Nokia is not an option for me even if I get rid of the P990. However, there are things I don't like about the P1 so it is not an alternative for me either. Yes, I will probably wait for at least a year, I think the P990 replacement will have Symbian 9.5. Until then I can live with P990 as I don't have the extreme problems some report. If SE announced that they would upgrade the P1 to Symbian 9.5, that may be a different story though. Those getting the P1, have fun with your new toy, I will pass this one.

Can't wait for the P1i. For the P990i owners, I'd reco waiting, and skipping this gen of smartphone. That's what I usually do. I went with the P800...skipped the P900...got the P910i... skipped the P990i. Incremental improvements aren't really worth the upgrade IMO, if you already have the P990i.
To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed that the P1i doesn't have HSDPA. But since my P910i has lasted me this long... it's due for an upgrade.

I live in a country that has plenty of HSDPA coverage, but no one uses it on their phone. This is the main issue I think people forget. It takes a lot of processing power to deal with that much incoming data (oh, and the speeds that are always quoted are theoretical maximums not practical speeds). In fact, both cell providers are marketing HSDPA as a SOHO Internet service, not one to be used on the phones. In fact, if you go and ask them to activate it (assuming you have a compatible phone) they will warn you that you may not get the speeds advertised, and they will provide no support for that.
I have also heard from reliable sources that having a phone on 3G data takes a lot out of the battery; upon talking with a cellphone engineer, he told me that 3G data signals have a shorter range from the tower, so a phone (or any other 3G radio) has to continuously hunt for the right signal when on data, draining the battery faster.
I really do not get the idea behind not including EDGE in the P1 (it is targeted as a communications device). It was the same with the M600 -- although the addition of a camera and WiFi takes care of the two biggest gripes I had with it.
Then people complain that the WiFi is not "g". I think that I would rather have a phone that lasts a day, than one that connects to everything, but the battery can't go 12 hours before it dies out.
Again, what use is "g" on a mobile phone targeted for text messaging? How fast do you really want to get your emails
Ah yes, the beauty of choice

For me, the keyboard is really what pulls me to this device, and I will surely keep an eye out for it, especially if it lands in August (it would make for a nice birthday gift).

reason for wifi-g is not speed but for better compatibility and less power consumption. Many hotspots nowadays disable the support of wifi-b because it deteriotes overall throughput.

Are u sure abaout that????
I think the man is right for the HSDPA.. I said it several times but always "no,no thats a 2007 model.. n95 has hsdpa! LOL! n95 takses several hours with gps and hsdpa, but no, n95 is n1!! p1 has no hsdpa and gps, so it sux, lol!!" etc... In my country is the same situation.. there is 2 operators with edge/umts/hsdpa/ coverage and the third one has edge/umts, and there is not so many ppl using the real (not so real as in the papers written..) speed.. So for me, UMTS or HSDPA, it's all the same working job stuff.. I will not download 3gb files to feel the difference..! and gps? at this point of the markets needs I think the gps is not good enough in the phones.. maybe in a year or two..

As I mentioned before. SE does not use more than three numeral digits in their phone model, so they had to come up with something new after P990. So the P1000 became the P1.

It's true that some places disable "b" and allow only "g" wi-fi on their modems. The reason is, as soon as any "b" device is connected the whole network downgrades to "b" so no one can take advantage of "g" anymore.
In Turkey, Edge is widely available, unfortunately SE chooses to neglect this protocol.

After looking at some videos on youtube for the Nokia E90 - very impressive; and of the SE P1i > the later seems greater form factor as a phone.
CONS:
* No GPS still behind the times. But most ppl will just get the headset that enables it or just a BT puck which is fine by me.
* No HSDPA.
* No Quad-band GPRS/EDGE
PROS:
* M600's keypad GREAT implementation from what I've read.
* M2
* 3.2MP Cam with Auto Focus (possible Cybershot interface features).
* SLIM form factor 25% smaller than P990i.
* RAM BABY RAM 150est after boot up.
SE should have evaluated the E90 more closely (know thy enemy, as it where) and with just QUAD-Band GPRS/EDGE would have sold at LEAST 1million more phones here in North America. Add 3G for this continent and BAM ppl would see the phone form-factor and avoid the E90 (save for zealots or those that invested heavily in S60 apps).
SE SHOULD have used the existing main board radios of of the E350 platform used in the Z750 & K850 into the P1i. Also for dedicated video chip for decoding and slightly faster computational YET power efficient CPU; for better longevity.
* special idea 101> after a USER setting of an app in idle for say 5-30mins (5 min increments) to auto kill that idle app with a check mark for EVEN if data is being updated while in minimized/hidden/idle state?
