If this thread descends into the usual tit for tat name calling I'm gonna complain to a mod.
Try and keep it clean for once.

Come on, 8gb is the very best you'd expect for a small sub-Ipod class media player, which is exactly what the W960i is, coupled with a phone of course.
You won't find more than that in any device short of a full size HDD-based player, now or at the end of this year - it's simply at the limit of what is marketable. If you make flash memory any larger than that, it gets to the point where it's so expensive it'd never fly in a consumer device, and you might as well go down the HDD route - making the phone heavier, more delicate, and more power hungry in the process.
Larger flash memory will become more available at this price level as demand increases and manufacturing improves etc, but it's a gradual process, not something that's going to happen suddenly, a week after the W960 is released.

dogmann,
you seem to always look on the negative side/post negative comments about

and look to talk about nokia ...... yes, you could buy or 6/8gb cards, but they wont exactly be cheap, and you have to buy the phone, then the card on top. So could be costly.
And speed will be much lower than the flash memory of the w960i, no doubt about it!

Do we have any idea at all as to when we can expect this phone to be released yet? I'm hoping it will be available with Voda so I can upgrade to it sometime before Xmas at the very latest.

From the first post:
The Sony Ericsson W960 WalkmanŽ phone is UMTS 2100-GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 and will be available in Vinyl Black from Q4 2007.
I would be surprised if it wasn't out before Christmas.

Sorry but the W960 is being touted as exactly that a Multimedia gadget it is certainly not just a phone. Other wise why would they fit all the additional functionality in it.?
Also by the end of the Year for those of us that use SDHC cards we will have 6 & 8gb cards to hot swap as we please. So an N95 or E90 will be able to have as much storage as the user wants with only a couple of cards needed and will easily match and surpass the storage offered by the W960, 8gb is a lot of storage now but won't be by early next Year.

Hmm, I think that anyone ireally bothered about the capacity issue would be unlikley to buy a device with a pre defined capacity.
As for the cards for the N95, I am less than impressed with the fact the N95 turns out NOT to support bigger than 2Gb, so the 4Gb cards were usless to me! just one of a number of reasons mine will be up for sale soon.

@Nitro Fan,
You certainly where as the N95 and E90 will support 8gb cards as well as SanDisk have already sent out test cards to various people.
Which is why i know they will both work and be available before the year end so am just waiting to buy an 8gb card. As 10gb of total storage will be more than enough for my needs, hmmm 10gb.

Well I hope others get better service than I clearly did!
But all the storage in the world wont make the N95 the right device for me I am afraid.
