Hi,

I'm about halfway through writing the editor now. If anyone wants to play with it you can download it from here:

http://www.btinternet.com/~mc[....]ad/PC/SoldierAntsMapEditor.exe

Although it is not finished, you can already use it to build maps. You will need to wait until the next version of Soldier Ants to load anything the editor creates though.

Any feedback is always welcome.

Cheers,

Tom

Cool. I wont be around this weekend so my next chance to work on the editor is monday. Should be finished by the end of the week. Your feedback will help me make the editor more friendly and also to write the instructions for it!

I'm now seriously thinking of binning all the old maps and using the editor to create brand new maps with all the old graphics. I could create a pack of around 30 maps in about 20 mintues i think (it would take me all night to create 10 by hand!)

I also really really want to bin the random maps, thats Jungle, Sweets, Ruins and Fruit and replace them with editor built versions. They'll still feel random because there can be loads of variations, they will just look a lot nicer.

I didn't get a chance to check out your map editor. As soon as I had time I got caught up with painting my old P910 housing. I'll test your editor as soon as I am done with my current project. Sorry to get your hopes up and then start something else.

Hopefully you'll enjoy this as well.

I don't expect too much interest in the editor until you can load the maps into the game... which should only be a few days now. I'm working on Flight again for a couple of days now, so it is slightly delayed.

Cheers,

Tom

I've just uploaded a new version of Soldier Ants to my website only. You can download it from the Beta section, as I won't be releasing it officially for a while.

This version contains only reworked jungle, beach and arctic maps which are about 40% bigger. These maps were all built using the editor which you can also download from the Beta section. You cannot use the old maps on this version.

Any feedback on all this would be most appreciated.

Cheers,

Tom

Both UIQ and PPC versions are updated to use the new maps, but only in the Beta section of my webpage.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but the previous beta has small problem with the info screen. No matter what you click on weird characters show up on the right side. I'll explain more when I am not on wap
