I'm using the C905 over my i8510 because it's a better everyday phone, with a very easy and logical user interface. I have push email (with Google) and a web browser that's good enough for my needs (as well as Opera Mini).

It has an excellent media player, support for my Bluetooth watch and a nice feel.

But, you can't just dismiss the quality of the sensor in the Samsung. It's MUCH better. I've taken loads of shots and you can see the detail on things like brickwork, or branches. By comparison, the SE has to use all sorts of noise reduction to hide its inefficiencies, so at 100% you can see it isn't as good.

SE get away with it because most pics are reduced. Look at the photos on here at 50% and they look fine. And the C905 (like other SE models) also take excellent macro shots.

That's why I think it's the best all-rounder. A proper flash, features like BestPic and less shutter lag, and an easier to operate camera.

But, only a fanatical SE fanboy could deny the fact that the competition is pretty fierce. In fact, I'd be quite happy to see the competition giving SE a run for its money, because it means they're going to have to work harder in 2009.

Think Jonathan summed up why I chose the C905. Ease of use. I only really use it as a phone, a camera and occasionally satnav and interweb. It is also smaller and a darn sight better looking.

Good to hear a user with both phones chooses the c905 as an everyday phone over the Samsung.

Maybe the picture quality will improve with further updates.

The other reason for 'accepting' the C905 is the fact that it still takes excellent photos. Just because they're not perfect or as good as the competition, doesn't change that fact. Unless you're always viewing the photos at 100% or printing them out on A3 paper, the camera well exceeds your needs.

Even 5-MP is probably more than you need, but people do like the numbers game!

One reason I stopped using the i8510 was down to the huge amount of dust that got behind the screen (and they all seem to do it) and the lack of firmware updates.

S60 has many flaws, and losing my email (literally - both emails AND the settings needed to download it) and slow messaging times (15 seconds to send an SMS) made me stop using it because it failed on fairly basic needs.

Not everyone will suffer these problems, so I'd still recommend it as the best S60 smartphone you can currently buy.

I don't know if this is a known issue but it certainly is at my Carphone Warehouse - there seems to be a problem with the speaker in some handsets i.e when you answer a call you hear nothing/or make a call and you hear nothing.

Mine worked fine to begin with but then this happened, the phone wasn't knocked in any way. I have now learnt that a lot of C905's have been brough back becuase of that problem.

I didn't purchase my C905 from my local Carphone Warehouse either mine was from a Carphone Warehouse in London.

I just thought I would mention this.

Apart from that it's an excellent phone.

Hi there just got a C905 and it's a great phone and everything but I seem to have a problem with it. Sometimes, the screen will just lose the backlight completely but you'll still be able to see, very slightly, what is on the screen but there is no light on it. The keypad glows white when this happens. And I have to wait for about 15 seconds until I can use the phone again, when the white lights have gone off.

Anyone had this problem? Any way to fix it?

Thanks!

I had this happen to me with the first firmware a couple of times, since I flashed it with the latest firmware I have not encountered this issue.

Do you know what the latest firmware is? I debranded mine to "1205-9079 R1BA042" and I presume that is what is causing the light to switch off!

Does everyones down arrow click or just press down. On my keypad, left, right up click, but down has to be pressed firmly to get a response.

My down button clicks it seems ok, I wish you could adjust the time before the backlight switches off, Im sure older SE handsets offered this option.

anyways to the point
the dpads all directions click up down left right work fine

slide does go a lil uppy downy when phone is open(slide is out - keys showing) but a little only; doesnt bother the phone in any way..

camera protection slide cover..moves abit but doesnt slide around in the pocket - so its still firm while its up and protecting the camera/flash etc

had the phone for half a day now..
no scratch marks yet on the keypad
and the keypad back light is well lit and spread evenly (no darker or lighter sections on any of the numbers.)

build quality of MY c905 i give out of ten is..hmm..
