Exactly, high MP count is not a good idea. 16 or even 12MP is plenty enough I feel.

True or not, I've been waiting for them to implement a 1" sensor in a mobile for a long while now. They've been tossing those sensors into all sorts of cameras, I'd love to see what they could do with 'em in a mobile. I wonder if the hump on the back of the XZ2 is thick enough for them to cram that size sensor and lens in there. The Pureview 808 had a sensor nearly that large but then again it was almost 3mm thicker than the XZ2.

GSMArena tested XZP x S8 and XZ2 x S9+ .
Same ISO and same SS the xperia wins again over galaxy..

Only advantage of P20 Pro beside the big sensor is that NIGHT MODE.
Because of shutter up to 6s. Of course any phone using 6s will.outperform another using 1/15s.
Turning 2 or 4 pixels into one always fails. Many have tried.
Also high MP count is important for EIS.
Better 4K EIS available in 2018 : OP6 ( 20MP) and XZ2 ( 19MP).
Photos of lower resolution always have less noise, no matter the brand.
Bigger photo = bigger crop = more deformation
Just compare any Xperia 2017/18, the 12MP has much less noise than 19MP.
Reason why AS of Z phones was only 8.
I doubt the CEO would allow the Mobile to use 1" just like the RX100 series.
Phones have much more process power than cameras, these have hardware advantage.
1" sensor inside of next Premium allows the phone to easily outperform the cybershot.
Why would anyone buy RX100 VI if a cellphone can do better?
Another point ... 1" sensor has more than half inch of width and 112mm2, imx400 has bit less than 30mm
We are talking about increasing almost 250% ..
No way it happens, imx400 is smaller than 220 and 300.

Very often others will implement features that Sony Mobile thinks that it dun seems practical. Eg Bezeless display will have an issue of holding a phone well while commuting. 6 sec shutter speed like you said need a tripod, on daily basis who will bring tripod around? Note is cool with stylus but how often do we see the users use the stylus?

The real 6s need the tripod so the tricky feature like what Huawei phone has is somewhat a good thing.
