They have been postponing the release of the phone all year,

Really? How many times have they postponed the release? It's always been second half of the year. To some that means July 1st, but to be honest it could well be december 31st. The next official date was September 30th, which again was true. It does not matter that only a few swedish version came out, but of course this adds to the bitter scent that's following X1. Why they announced the phone if february is beyond me. If it was announced in august it would still come out at the end of october, but people would be ecstatic, now they're getting tired of it. For now that was SE's biggest mistake (or was it Magnus?)

So to be fair, SE didn't delay anything really. A week or two does not really change anything. If you remember the p990 fiasco - now that was delay.

the way i see it if the xperia was released in one market already they are probably guaging the response and feedback of that market. after a couple weeks i am pretty confident it would be released on a much larger scale ... after all the unit is more or less done ... only fine tuning now. I dont know about you but i sorta dont want to spend that amount of money on a phone that may have issues, i rather play it safe and get a phone that is some what solid. and if its rumored that the final final one has the 384ram i dont mind waiting a few weeks to get it. its almost as if some of you guys have had the xperia before and sony came taking it away now you wanted it back saying you cant go on without it complaining this and that. I like most of you never held it in my hand so me not having it for a couple of weeks is no sweat. bottom line is let sony work out their kinks ... give them a chance to if they are maybe throw in the 384 in the final ... as i see it a 384 possibility in a couple of weeks is much better than a 256 right now.

Another owner whose phone has 256MB:

I don't know how much ram it has got (256MB is enough for me) or not but the amount that windows reports is not always the physical ram. It took SP1 for Vista to even correctly report this. It could be the maximum WM6.1 can address is 256.

Xperia comes with 256mb, everything else is denial. Even SE itself says so (the guy who bought it at an auction was told so over the phone after he got it, there was an interview in some swedish magazine). I was dissapointed at first. Not that 256mb is not enough for WM 6.1 (after boot the device has 200mb free RAM) but I was hoping I could update my phone to WM 7 and it would still perform well. But I don't care about that anymore either since WM 7 was pushed back to Q3 2009 and a lot can happen in that time.

Nice. that's the one I want, I find silver ugly in comparison. Black is my color

For you and everyne else who's got it:
Tell us more about UI speed, stabiliy, battery performance (in a few days naturaly). everything that can't be find in spec sheet, but important.

in my opinion the phone is VERY slow. im just gonna use the phone a few days and give it to a friend of mine, Didnt like the phone :/

Backs up the evidence of my own eyes,This thing is SLOW!
BUT we still do not know if anyone has had a "retail version" to test IF the firmware date argument and IMEI number statements are to be believed.

I would like to hear make a statement either clarifying or denying their snr product guys statement in the webcast about the RAM situation.

The fact is are the only ones who know and they aint saying!

Slow is relative. It might be slow compared to ordinairy feature phones but it's very fast compared to other WM6.1 devices such as the HTC TP

Here's the final answer for your ram issue guys...
From the Xperiancer's Site
http://xperiancers.com/2008/1[....]emonstration-video/#commenting

Question--- How much RAM is in the Xperia X1 and how much available after start-up?

Sam Oakley's Answer- RAM is 384 meg, this was upgraded from the white paper to keep the speed up.

Question---Please double confirm that the RAM is indeed 384MB. I have been hearing about retail units showing 256MB RAM and would like to clear up this matter once and for all.

Sam Oakley's Answer- The version I was using touts 256 meg of ram, but I’m reliably informed that the consumer versions are 384 meg

Guess that settles it then.

Got mine today!!!!

YAY!
It's awesome! Mine is fast, when I press or do something it answers immediatly. I'm so impressed!

everything is great!

BUT, why do I have to enter my PIN CODE every time I want to make a call?

I went into the phone pref. and tried to change it, when I uncheck the box that says "ask for PIN every time the Phone is used" it says "You don't have the rights to make this choice"

I'm like, WTF?!

It's not fun being forced to press Pin code every time I want to call someone.
