I've formatted my PC 6 times since I got it. (i take care of my babies) but never once neeed for my Mac (although I'm sure it would improve it)
It still runs as it was first bought (both of the macs)
My PC is louder than ever, I need to open up the old lappy and hoover it. (it's not that old, it's a custom Toshiba Dual P4 with 2gb ram, total speed 4.8Ghz effective 6.2ghz literal)

@fatreg, well you can start by hoovering the fan area where it sucks in the air. Beleive it or not, it sucks alot of dust and hair.
When I hoovered mine alot of dirt came out. (and I clean and wipe my laptop everyday btw)
To hoover the inside, you basically just need to find the bottom screws and hoover the solid areas and wipe the rest carefully.
Then you'll notice how quiet your laptop (or pc) will be.

edit: it works now.
Anyway,
For my ibook I use the hoovers hose to suck out the dust from the small grills on the back and the side.
Opening it up is TOOOOO Tricky.
