Probably Jagger, I've seen XP running on some VERY low end setups.. like anything it'll be how you tune it..
You'll need to wait to see what MS sets as its minimum graphics requirements though.

M$ are currently saying that Vista will run with onboard graphics (of course) but if you want to use Aero, they're recommending a seperate graphics card with 64Mb or higher.
Vista itself will run quite happily on a realtively low spec machine, something like a 1.4Ghz Intel or AMD processor with 256Mb of RAM and onboard everything but you'll have to turn all of the pretty bits off and it's not going to run particularly quickly!

i can confirm do not try on a 1.4ghz, 256mk pc. It will take years to install and it will run slow and crash your pc. not even gonna bother on my new one.

Well, M$ are notorious for underspeccing their products, they'd lose too many sales if they did!
However, on those specs the operating system will, as you quite rightly say, take ages to install and not be very quick but crashing? No, I'm sorry but you've either got a poorly PC or your hardware isn't fully supported yet. You have to remember that Vista is still in Beta, you have to reserve judgement for the final release.
I think you'll find that the final release will run without crashing on older hardware, although very, very slowly!

Could anyone point me in the right direction to a decent working version at all, tried a few options but non of them have worked.
Do you think my rubbish 4 year old tiny pc could handle it?

most likely not.

@Miss C
I wouldn't bother trying to install it on a four year old PC
Even if it installs, it'll be slow as hell and you'd have to turn off all of the best bits.
