Argggh!

How can it keep on saying detecting when the fone screen goes off? Every time I try this, the screen goes off And then it zips through "downloading software" and "upgrading software" and then takes me back to start screen!

Try this link in order to download: http://www.sonyericsson.com/d[....]UpdateService_Inst_2.6.4.9.exe

I had to find it by searching for P910 version, but apparently it works with P990 judging by Masseur's post.

It seems quirky tho, at least for me. I have to hold the "C" button down and then attach the sync cable...then the screen tells me to relase the C button...then it appears to turn itself off...while it says on the utility something like "locating device"...then a P990 screen appears and I confirm I want to upgrade and erase all data...then it moves through some kind of downloading updata and installing update screens very fast and takes me back to the startup of the utility.

When you follow that link you actually get version 2.6.7.9.
Updating as I write....seams to work fine!

Lucky you for getting it to work!! During the detection process, did the software appear to shut the unit down? I can't see how it can detect if it's off! Not only have I cut myself a bit trying to get the back off, I practically sliced off one of the two little plastic bits that stick out on the back piece I tried this with the cradle, having both power and cable attached, in case it was some battery problem. The P910 was much easier to upgrade than this latest shockwave version.

Hi Bloom,

I tried that...same problem...the unit just turns itself off. I followed the instructions to the letter. I started holding down the C key once it came back on, and released only after plugging in the cable and waiting for it to say release. Then, a few seconds later, it powered down while the Detecting Device screen was there. No difference after the re-install of the software. I am ticked off by this point, and feel I damaged back cover of the phone...all for the sake of the upgrade!!!!!

PS...there is another forum with people trying at http://my-symbian.com/forum/v[....]days=0&postorder=asc&start=30.

Maybe someone can draft a definitive second-by-second procedure lol

start with the phone off. run the update program. when it says press c and plug usb in, do that (the phone starts up when u do this). hold the c button till the computer says release it. the phone will then turn off, except it hasnt. it just needs to power down to start the update procedure. then if this works it will then detect the phone. select the update and hopefully it wil start downloading. it has been doing this for me now for about 30 minutes.

Cheers! I did it, sealed the phone back up. I have some visible nicks on both sides of where the back part splits between the battery cover and just next to the camera circle. The camera circle is fine, so I can handle the cosmetic damage. Anyhow, looks like I'm up and running.

Enjoy your fone

I had one failure at updating then it continued to have the same failure- that is it would only write about 10% of the update before finishing. Somehow my internet connection was interrupted and only a small part of the firm was downloaded and the SEUS seemed to detect that it was all downloaded. I had to delete the firmware files from program files>sony ericsson>update service>db>1370270>blob_fs before the SEUS would download the new firmware again.

Edit: with the new firmware switching-off hand writting recognition really does improve the speed of the user interface
