@liamski: indeed, SE blame Voda, Voda say they don't want to put it on SEUS as they don't want to support customers bricking their phones. Only answer to this is to phone up and register a complaint...
@buxtonguy: no the emails, just like your average complaint to the average first line customer service rep, fall on deaf ears. Mainly because they don't know what you're talking about. You have to phone up (191 free on Voda contract), say you want to make a complaint, get put through to a supervisor and then explain. After they go away and check with 'technical' they'll understand you and go 'sorry, you have to send it off for 7 days' - at which point you lodge a complaint because SE and O2 phones can be done at home, online via SEUS.
@jamied: What are your version numbers now? Everyone else's (well, other than those lucky lucky people who happened to get updated by SE at the smartphone show

) are the same as mine, see the first post to this thread.

I went into Vodafone to have a play with a P990, the woman said she was using one and loved it. Her's is unbranded, she told me when they started making them live with all the voda branding they all started crashing. They know there's a problem, they just arent changing it. Maybe they're not used to UIQ 3.

I really wouldn't bother... I would suspect a company with as good customer service as Voda and as large/diverse a customer base has met with repeated mails before, and have worked out how to add a mail filter.
You may well get a comment on your account file to the tune of 'difficult customer' which is going to get you poorer customer service going forward, and certainly isn't going to help our cause.
If they do take any notice the person who eventually reads any of your emails will not have a clue what 'firmware' is. They will not understand and will send a standard reply. If they do take a look into it they'll just tell you to take the phone to the store and wait 7 days whilst they send it off for flashing.
No complaint will be registered.
Only way is to phone them and persevere... (be polite and patient, the ops aren't being rude or trying to fob you off, 99% of the time they have absolutely no idea what you're talking about...)

Just called Vodafone to quiz them about the Firmware Upgrade. The person did not have a reason why Vodafone would wnat to block the firmware upgrade.
His solution was to call into a vodafone store and get them to upgrade the phone for me. I will give that a try and suggest that everyone does. At least we will probably then get the store staff complaining back to base about this.
Does anyone know where it states what the current firmware version is for the P990? I need to have this as proof for the store tomorrow.
Cheers.
