yes very funny. I am joking everyone realises? If someone starts a thread with "I'm going over to the darkside" in it, then I will make every Star Wars reference I can squeeze into it.

I'm picking up my new (old and battered 2nd hand) N70 tonight! Let's see what these s60's are all about then!

I also had a play on a s60 3rd edition lastnight and I must say I'm impressed with the internet browser, though I've never used an SE symbian on the internet so I have nothing to compare it against. It's definitely better than the K750 browser, but then K750 isn't a smartphone, so you gotta expect that.

Easy on the n70, mr wedge...it's the spawn of the 6680...not exactly a pokia-darkside product I would endorse... Well, report back re. Impression asap, SEnsei!

Hi Max,

i have to be honest the Nokia Safari based browser is truly awesome i can never understand why people that have this then install Opera or Opera Mini the only reason could be expensive Data charges. Personally Opera really doesn't do it for me in fact i really hated it on the M600 drove me nuts along with a few other things on that device.

Whilst the N70 is now old it was my introduction to S60 and whilst i had it, it never failed me and always did all I asked of it just maybe not the fastest device though a small rice to pay.

Agree - opera mobile I don't get... pay for it??? (exception: 8.65 beta for windows mobile: very good, and 9.0 will be, WILL be exciting!!!) I use opermini excessively, but only because of enormous data savings (I don't trust folks with my info... so, as few contracts for maggflodd as possible )... safari browser is great, although without fast transfer/3g etc, it can be slow compared to "mini", and I can be impatient at times...

okay, I've got my N70.

Camera not good. No AF, higher compression than K750, colour not as accurate, more pixelation. Video is better resolution than K750, but overall quality still poor. Better than my xda mini though, but that's not saying much, xda camera is really poor.

Menu layout and UI is irritating, but large screen is a plus, even if the actual resolution is no better than the K750. Today screen is good (however I will be getting moby today for my K810 when I get it which should be similar). Menu speed is atrocious, though s60 third edition seems much better so I guess N70 slowness is a thing of the past. But as a direct comparison to K750, the N70 is a dog in menu speed terms.

Music player is poor even compared to the stock K750 media player, let alone the Walkman player. The only advantage of the N70 media player is the loud external speaker. Headset audio is about the same or a bit lower in volume than K750.

Video player is crap - inbuilt realplayer - I can't get it to play videos I've ripped with Super, whereas K750 plays most MP4's I throw at it as long as they have a supported resolution and bitrate. However I will investigate third party video players before writing off the N70 as a multi-media device.

PDF viewer is great, as are the office document viewers, but what's the point of docs that I can't edit? This is something the XDA mini has all over the N70, but of course the K750 doesn't even have viewers so here the comparison between N70 and K750 falls away. Until an Office suite is available in JAVA, smartphones are the go if you need on the go office doc viewing.

The lack of touch screen is frustrating on a smartphone, both for text based input and ease of navigation. Given the lack of touchscreen, navigation is reasonably sensible, though I still prefer the K750 menu system over the N70. The K750 activity menu also makes a better task manager than the N70 task switcher though of course only one app can be open at a time on the K750. K800 with multi-tasking solves that problem to an extent, though I do like that phone functions (such as calculator/calander etc) can be task switched, this is a definite advantage over K750/K800 activity menu.

That's it for now, more to come I'm sure

...so really what you're saying in a nutty shell is: love it! ... No comment - I hated 6680, so even looking at n 70 makes me depressed!
