Look closely at the side photos of the T608. Along with the colour, I have never seen a phone that look so much like a bar of soap.

It is a CDMA 1xRTT phone, with a download speed of 144kbps.
When Nokia release their '3G' 6650 next year, it won't be able to achieve these speeds.
Just wondering... what's the coverage of your so called 3G services?

CDMA2000 1X (or 1XRTT): Backward-compatible upgrade to CDMA IS-95. This is seeing its strongest presence in North America (it is used now in Korea, but some operators there have already committed future networks to W-CDMA). CDMA2000 operators must install new channel cards at the base transceiver station, software upgrades at the base station controller and mobile switching center, and a packet core backbone to carry traffic. Infrastructure costs are lower than GPRS and EDGE, and existing terminals are compatible with the new technology, as new terminals are backward-compatible. Service is symmetrical, matching uplink and downlink speeds. This is considered (and is called) 3G by North American and Korean operators and by the ITU in Europe.
I believe that, like GPRS upgrades to GSM basestations in Europe, coverage should be nationwide.

I think this article confirms that.
CDMA20001x has beaten WCDMA senseless in Japan over the last year.
WCDMA has picked up 135,000 subscribers since Oct 2001, due to dropped calls, product recalls, 50 hours quoted standby with no use among other problems..
CDMA20001x has picked up over 3 million subscribers since
april, due to long battery life handsets and immediate nationwide coverage.
The same situation applies in South Korea, where there are over 7 million 3G (CDMA20001x) subscribers, and WCDMA has yet to get off the ground.
I live in the UK by the way.
