Well, this is my experience on DSPs.

n95-2 is almost identical to n95-1 except the screen size and memory capacity. n91 has separate DSP dedicated for music playback. w550/600, unfortunately, the only available SE for my test.

I plugged all fones into a sony car stereo.

n95-1 at 80% volume produces average sound. Yet cracking at full.
w550/600 produces clearer sound compared to n95 but absolutely no par with n91.
n91-8GB, the sound is just so great, even at full volume. I think, it is here where you will notice the real difference.

I agree with two of these points and this is the point of a faster more powerful processor as both the better speed and less lagging have to improve the listening experience as either of those two things reduce it. It also allows you to do other things such as Web Browsing which is processor intensive without the loss of quality to the Music.

The last point i don't agree with as who really looks at their Music player whilst listening to Music much as the same way i view Album Art it's nice but only for the starting and selection of Music as again who stares at their phone whilst listening to Music.

But even then any bundled headphones are only adequate at best even upgrading to Sony MDR-71SL's will make a vast difference and moving further up to some thing like the Shure EC2g's which were still under £40 improves this further but only when in conjunction with using a higher encoding bit rate as the lower the bit rate the less information the processor has to produce the sound from.

I know this because i have moved from 128kbps MP3'S to 160kbps AAC and now use 256kbps AAC and this along with using a good set of headphones has vastly improved the Music listening experience. Only really at this sort of level are phones able to give as good an experience as some dedicated Music Players IMO. But not everyone wants or needs the same experience to be happy what is good for some may not be to all as individuals we all have our own perception of what is good enough. A true Audiophile would find all of these totally inadequate and unacceptable.

Well your findings are very interesting especially as both the N95-1 and the N95-2 or N95 8GB both run on exactly the same chip the OMAP2420 which has DSP so really should both have the same results. But again as mentioned before just how high a bit rate the Music is encoded at plays a big part in how it sounds, and really no device should ever need to be played at full volume as loudness does not equate to quality in any way IMO.

my w300i beats my ipod nano believe it or not.Sony A800 beats any mp3 player in the market.

I do not believe in hardware tests.

How do test cameras ? ?

ans: You take pictures and take a look at the picture quality.

How do you test mp3 players ? ?

ans: You listen to them and the one which sounds better is the best.

Please do not comepare nokia music phones (how can they be music phone is a few hours of music kill the battery?) with Walkman.Its just not a perfect match.Nokia music interface looks cheap not to mention the sound quality.Just dont let crappy hardware tests convince you.

User experience should count 1st then reviews and tests.

Part of what you have said makes perfect sense but then part of it doesn't have you actually listened to the N95 or the N95 8GB?

As i have and quite simply Music encoded @256kbps AAC sounds stunning and lasts longer than just a couple of hours to. As for interfaces whilst they may look good they definitely come second to how the Music sounds as that is the most important thing. I would never choose a lower quality sound just because the interface looks good a that is just plain stupid IMO.

I really don't know what some of expect from the interface but even Album Art IMO is nothing more than a pretty gimmick hardly an essential element of listening to Music. As it happens i really like the Music interface of the Nokia Music player and as it performs all the functions i need in a clear and easy to navigate way and that's more than enough.

As for sound quality well it easily matches my 80GB 5th Gen iPod and that's why it will shortly be sold. If you only want to buy Sony or SE fair enough that's your choice and your money but this unfounded belief that they always delver the best is no longer true it may of been once but unfortunately just isn't any longer. Which is why after a long time of only buying products from these companies i no longer buy either Sony or SE products and if and when they start making the best again i will buy them again.
