Before you respond to someone you better take time out and research what you're writing about.

Correct i agree with u

You would, your also the last person I would take advice from.

So the fact Motorola is rumoured to use UIQ4 is incorrect right despite proof posted on here. Looking on Moto's UK website I can see only 3 smart phones available, 1 Windows and 2 UIQ. So just where are the Linux based smart phones then that I'm missing? You said they are investing in Linux more, yet the only proof of that is it's non smart phones, a totally different market and device so using it to support your comment was inaccurate.
And please re-read my last post as I made a flaming attack, then rubbed my eyes and read what you actually wrote and totally changed my response ooops.

And everyone please stop stating end of UIQ, it's end of S60 too, S60 will be dead and won't be around in 2 years on these devices if that's the case. As said this is protecting Symbian all together and getting the platform ready for the future, all current Symbian platforms will cease and we will have new and exciting Os's with a unified platform. IMO Android is more of a worry, Apple may have launched 1 more phone by then but Android will be out and strong, I suspect MS will just be in the same position.

By the way, for the Apple fans, rumoured PAYG prices are £370 for the 8gb and £470 for the 16!!! More then a PS3.

Thats a bad news i think.
With new platform SE will have to pay to nokia for the license.
Damn! This news is irritating me

I think should develop their own os based on mix of flash+java+linux or start using android os in their product

And by now I am sure you can't read.

The new platform is royalty-free!

but it's the death of UIQ whichever way you look at it, and it's hard to imagine that the new UI won't be more focussed on S60 compatibility than anything else,

Correct

Nokia to acquire Symbian, with all the paperwork signed off by the end of 2008. Symbian employees will become employees of Nokia

In the wake of today's news of the Symbian Foundation being set up, UI company UIQ have announced plans to layoff of 200 employees (reports BLT.se). Currently the majority of the 375 staff are employed in the Ronneby offices, with the balance of staff in two foreign offices in London and Budapest. These offices will probably close. Further details will be announced by UIQ this afternoon.

The benefit is that SE will finally use an up to date OS. Now all they need to worry about is the hardware.

So this means, now SE can use S60 version OS(n95,n82 etc. of nokia) in their phones. :}

Phone manufacturers will still have to develop applications and plug-ins for the new platform otherwise nokia, samsung, SE and LG phones will all look and feel the same as far as UI goes.

Can't imagine that any of them would want that.

Exactly. But it wont be called S60. However seeing as all this wonderful news is becasue of Nokia you can hedge your bets that S60 will have a lot more influence than UIQ. Infact I doubt UIQ will have much if any but maybe it can contribute something.
