Its been quite a while.. since I have posted in topics like these.. but heck here I go...

As expected in a topic of this nature.. religion always comes into picture. I have seen people (@Peterkay) here saying "Life is given for a reason, to worship one God."

I see what he is saying.. but I disagree with how he has put it forth. I simply do not believe, that God wants US to worship him all through the period of our lives. If all we are here is to worship him, what are we doing here posting on Internet forums?

Fasting is a form of worship, what ever actions one does whilst fasting is also rewarding, whether posting on forums or debating face to face.

@Peterkay, I am aware of that. My best friend is a Muslim, so I am fairly aware of the traditions. Btw, Islam is not the only religion where fasting is a medium of worship. I am sure you might be aware... thanks to your Indian connections!

@caspa, but do we know we are going to die? What if science discovered the secret of aging? They might then find a cure for death! I agree it's EXTREMELY LIKELY that we will die, but certain? No. It is more certain that we exist than that we will die.

I think, therefore I am.

Right now, yes we do! Its a certainty in my life time at least!!!

I exist now and I will exist when I die... Just not in the same way as when I was alive...

I think both are certainties...

Now a year a go, I would of considered my self a firm believer in Christianity. However a year has only passed and I now have a much open view on religion. I believe there is some sort of Supreme being like whizkid said, and I kind of believe there is some sort of life after death.

The fact is however, I think the only heaven right now is right HERE on earth. A lot of people will laugh at what the ancient Greeks and Egyptians believed in. But what makes their religions so different? There is no proof what so ever to prove religions like Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and the rest of them as fact. It is faith. I think religion can be a good thing, but very dangerous aswell.

Fair enough, if you want to follow it to lead a better life if you believe in it, but if you take it to seriously it becomes nothing but control. Believe and do what you want in your own space and time, but what I HATE is when you have a bunch of bigots, pushing their faith into your face. I find that rude and insulting. You live your life and I will live mine, I dont need you to tell me what I should consider believing in. That goes to Jehova witnesses, and when you have your fundementalist muslim extreamist, who wants Islam to take over your hole damn life and everyone elses, aswell as the rest of these people. I will believe in what I want to believe in.

And overall thats what I believe religion is. Control. If there really was some God, he would want us to live our lifes free. Not constantly bowing down to him so we can sleep at night.

Dont get me wrong, I would love to die, then wake up in some sort of paradise, but what im saying is fact. Religion can be very dangerous. Thats why I live my life how I want. I have no problems with the way woman and men dress, I will have a drink when I want, I will bet if I want, and I will eat meat. I don't go round interfering with other peoples lives, but its the religious goons that do. This is exactly why 90% Atheists and Agnostics have a much more of an oppened mind then everyone else. If we gave people the oppertunity to live THEIR OWN life with out religions rules and regulations, this world would be a MUCH better place.

Sorry if I offended any one, but thats just my opinion.

About the science in the Quran.

It is also known that some of this science was already discovered years before it was written. I find it staggering how so many people convert to Islam because of its supposed science in what happens to be a holy book.

If you look at it from a diffrent point of view and not a religious one. Any one can take science which was discovered by the ancients years before and stuff it all in a holy book. Just because a bit of scientific fact is contained in a holy book, which as a matter of fact was already known, means nothing.

Look at all these staggering examples:

the first ever automatic door
water mills
vending machines
analog computers
fire hose
clock tower

just read these links

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_technology
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_technology
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Egyptian_technology

Also just look at the engineering along with the Mayans. These facinating feets were all discovered years before the Quran. In my opinion ancient technology is one of the most intresting topics to be taught. My breath was taken away by some of these marvels. We think of the ancients as primitive cave men, yet could harness the power of steam, which was thought to be discovered by the British 100 years ago. Its just incredible to imagine were we would be if there was no dark age. Man would of landed on the moon in the 1700's for all we know.

The point is, any one could of taken scientific extracts and put it in some book to make it sound legit.

The ancient Mayan and Egyptian religion included things such as eclipses and major astronomical events which reflected in their enginerring, its funny how no guy is not pursuading people to convert to their ancient religion because of these facts lol.

People really need to stop being so narrow minded and look at every source and argument available.

Well everyone that doesn't believe in a religion sound like they are saying the same thing. That is...

1. I believe in God
2. He created everything
3. He created ME for absolutely no reason
4. So lets do whatever we think is best

Is that correct?

I dont think the quran ever claimed to discover the first ever automatic door, water mills, vending machines, etc so that doesnt prove anything from what I can see. In your post, you're generalising that the science in the quran had been discovered before, just because science existed before the quran. I remember speaking to someone about this long ago and he said that the quran didnt come to just to provide new science but also confirm whats correct of established science at the time.

The Quran is not just about Science, it focuses more on death and the hearafter, this is worth a read:

Chapter 56 verses Verses 47 onwards:

And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?-

48. "We and our fathers of old?"

49. Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times,

50. "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known.

51. "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat Truth as Falsehood!-

52. "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum.

53. "Then will ye fill your insides therewith,

54. "And drink Boiling Water on top of it:

55. "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!"

56. Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital!

57. It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth?

58. Do ye then see?- The human Seed that ye throw out,-

59. Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators?

60. We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated

61. from changing your Forms and creating you again in forms that ye know not.

62. And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises?

63. See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground?

64. Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause?

65. Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment,

66. Saying, "We are indeed left with debts for nothing:

67. "Indeed are we shut out of the fruits of our labour"

68. See ye the water which ye drink?

69. Do ye bring it down in rain from the cloud or do We?

70. Were it Our Will, We could make it salt and unpalatable: then why do ye not give thanks?

71. See ye the Fire which ye kindle?

72. Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it?

73. We have made it a memorial of Our handiwork, and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts.

74. Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme!

75. Furthermore I call to witness the setting of the Stars,-

76. And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if ye but knew,-

77. That this is indeed a qur'an Most Honourable,

78. In Book well-guarded,

79. Which none shall touch but those who are clean:

80. A Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.
