Yes. The hooks are the same type so you can exchange them. (The links must be there though)
You can also swap left, right and center hooks by unpacking the itm file (it's tar), renaming the xml, repacking and renaming the file.
My left hook is now opera mini, center is walkman (mediaplayer), right is menu. To me this works much better. If I press back too often, it will just go to main menu and back. And I really like my mediaplayer centralized.

can i use this way to internal apps?

H_rY, yes, that's the way, except you don't have to change 'RIGHT str="softkey.png"'. Seems unlogical, but I forgot to change that string and they worked anyway.
I guess you can use this for any app in the phone if you know it's name and location.

Here's the softkey-setup I use:

As you can see it has opera on the left, walkman(mediaplayer) in the middle and menu on the right which is very convenient for me. Pics are included in the package. They're desaturated to go with any colorscheme, but you can color them as you like. Here's the pack:

Hello, for the first time i have mod right soft key using your hook of operamini 4.2 final, yesterday. I like it. But can you make the operamini symbol bit larger so it would be readable or other symbol.
I have modded only right soft key so the screen look bit awkward. Like media, menu keys are bright and readable but opera mini symbol is very small to read, like a red patch on the right bottom corner of the screen.
If anybody has the hook of right soft key with another symbol of opera mini, please give the link of it.

I copied LEFT_SOFTKEY_HOOK.itm to tpa/preset/custom. What did I do wrong ?

i unpacked the itm, changed then in the xml file "MediaPlayer" to "MediaCenter" , repacked it as .tar renamed to itm then back to the phone , worked ^^ im on a german phone though
