@ehamiter: are you sure you clicked the flash button? I think you clicked the FileSystem tool button.

I definitely clicked flash. And it said CID ### and one other line, then just stopped. The bottom right said "READY" so I assumed it was done. The tutorial here says that's when you disconnect, and then you can add customization files. I didn't have any to add (looked for CID files that say united states or north america and couldn't find any) so I thought I was done.
I guess not, because my phone is not usable again as of this morning.
I'll try it again tonight, but what am I supposed to do for step 7?

I don't know what files the author is talking about in step 9 ("Once we're there drag and drop all the files that are within the custom we downloaded.")
I don't have a custom and all the ones I found on topsony and seusers are like taiwan, nordic, germany, etc. nothing for US or north america.

The author, me, means that you have to download a custom pack for your phone. If you don't do that you will have the "Configuration error" message.

Thanks for the tutorial. I need help though- I found the main and fs files at topsony, but I can't find a customization file. I have a C901 and live in the united states. All the custom files I see are things like taiwan, germany, sweden, etc. There's no "generic" or u.s. or north american that I can find.
I did find the a2 cda file generator tool that just creates one xml file. Is that all I need, or do I need a big pack of files?

It shipped from California, so the answer is yes- but not in retail stores.
I ended up using the western europe fs file. I can't find one similar to that for customization packs though.

should i install these or can i mix and match the fs/main r1ga028 set with the custom "sofia" pack listed there?

I found a solution. I looked in the phone info that was given by the A2 Uploader and matched up what was there and chose that way. Turns out the phone originally had a customized Indonesia set and was an apac_anz fs. It was definitely different this time and so far it seems to have been a success. I'll wait and see if it lasts more than a few days. I'm not going to upgrade it because I'm paranoid it will mess it up again.
Oh, let me add one thing- mine would only work properly if I held the 2 and the 5 down instead of the C. This loaded an alternate bootloader that worked whereas holding C resulted in an error in the fs system.
Edit: Bah humbug, it is still borked. SE warranty still covers it, so it is being shipped off to let the professionals fix it. I think it's a hardware issue. They say I'll get it back in 10 business days, so until then I'll make do with an old phone that takes horrible pictures but you can actually talk on it! SE customer support was pretty good, by the way.

This error are shown after i turn on my phone..."Configuration error..please contact your network operator or service centre..............."
my old firmware is R1EA033....
