I'm confused. I am buying the X10 mini this week but then Shakira got announced. I want the small package of the mini but I want Shakira's better screen and subsequently more support for apps. What should I do?

Hard to say. But: you would have to wait for the X8 until October... That's quite some time. Why not take the X10 mini, use it for a few months and then decide if you really need the bigger screen? I'll do it that way, but until now I don't miss a larger screen.
And the app support for the X10 mini is growing, as it seems to be quite popular, thus increasing pressure on developers to either adapt their apps or at least mark them as compatible...
The X8 seem very interesting, too - but it only has a 3MP camera without flash, LED and autofocus. I'm not sure yet if I could live with that.

I probably couldn't since a good camera ( at least 3Mpx with (any) flash & autofocus) is a must for me. The X8 seems to be targetted for first time Android users who don't want to spend a ton of cash for their first android phone - it's a good move for SE.
The X10 mini, looks to be a major player in the Android market, the fact that is has a variant (X10 mini pro) which has a physical keyboard also doesn't hurt.
