@goldenface -

i am curious to see what sort of bundles will be offered. if it's true that sony plans to disable 5G for US variant, then I am definitely going to be importing for that reason, in addition to the preorder bundles in europe being superior to anything offered in the US (where there usually isn't any bundle at all).

Last holiday season, amazon offered Xperia 1 with the 1000xm3 headphones for $800 or something on black friday. I can't deny I wasn't tempted to jump on it then, but I was adamant about waiting for the 2020 flagship. but it sticks out in my mind if amazon would be offering a similar bundle this year, in which case i would just have to wait.

i don't think i'd be able to sell my phone. it works, but i think the wifi and data antenna aren't doing so hot as i get poor signal and lose wifi connection often. Other than that, i sadly don't have anything else I think I can sell.

It has been a full day or more since the announcement. I'm surprised there isn't more information. Maybe this is due to the fact that it wasn't MWC. Usually we see a lot more hands on, interviews, and information being given to answer a lot of our questions, but I guess Sony isn't really having a mini conference to allow reporters to do what they would normally do at MWC - if the reporters were all around for that to begin with.

Looking forward to seeing hands on with the Photo Pro app and the new Cinema Pro app to see what changes have been made. Real world samples of photos will be exciting to see as well and definitely want to know what the time limits for 4K recording are.

Who said 4K is limited?

They barely sell in USA.
Only Sprint has sub6, which often used in Europe.
They try to sell 1 ii "4G" to those that dont care about 5G, while Pro as business tool.

Be careful, I think it is in UK that charger is different.
Triple pin.

Sony website says 4K is limited in the footnote.

Carriers in the US are implementing 5G using mmWave but they are also pushing out sub6 networks too. My carrier, ATT, already has mmWave live and is planning to have sub6 up and running by end of the year. The problem is whether the band will be supported by X1m2, but it doesn't seem to be.

and I am not worried about the charger. I use my own charger or a Qi charger.

Anyone know what version of 5G will be in Canada? sub6 or mmWave?

https://www.itworldcanada.com[....]says-nokia-and-ericsson/415594

If this is still correct, then only the band 78 or 3500 for sub6 will work in Canada and the xperia, but that won't be auctioned off until late this year or even next, and even though the telcos claim quick rollout for 5G, I doubt it will that fast.

Otherwise if sub6 bands in Canada will not be compatible with the xperia, then the phone will be stuck at 4G and no point in spending 1200 euros on a 5G device that will be 5G capable when someone buys it.

also why is this thread in the rumours section?

Must be just the 4K HDR 60.
Probably to avoid hardware stress.
Much more data than 4K SDR 60.

I want to know if they fixed the steadyshot.
Even z series had better.

its in the rumors section cause XJ created it there by accident probably and there are no admins around to move it.

No idea what bands will be supported in canada. but seems very similar to the US. none of the bands supported by X1m2 (as currently listed) are supported by north american carriers now or planned for the future. I wonder if when they sell the US variant, if 5G is disabled, will it cost less? Probably not since the antenna is still there and it costs money.

it doesn't specify that it is 4K HDR 60 only. in any case, even with regular 4K recording, the overheating issues limited how much you could record too. so who knows what they mean. We need more information and it's a shame they do not give specific numbers in the spec sheet.

Hope steadyshot is fixed. spec sheet says Steady Shot Hybrid is for 24mm and 70mm. Steady shot with Active Intelligent 5axis is only for the 16mm.

EIS does crop.
That's why Ultra Wide has better stabilization.
More crop = better EIS

Reason Samsung has super steady mode that uses ultra wide only.

@hawk - i know. i'm just reporting what the spec sheet says.

i was looking up more stuff on 5G on ATT. there is a sub6 network rolling out but in order to take advantage of 5G, it requires an unlimited plan, which i don't have. that's really annoying.

anyway, i hope we get more information soon. this dry spell after the announcement feels so weird.

overall, all the articles i've read from tech sites seem to be shitting on the name, lack of high refresh rate screen, and no large mp sensor.

have yet to really read an article that is singing any praises. kind of sad. but typical.
