I find comments on No back up...restore....syncing...no memory to open contacf list....completely frivalous. The P800 works flawlessly for all the above. If its not working on your phone, then thats exactly what it is....your phone.

Don't get me wrong, my P800 is fantastic, I am definitely a "1", but.....

The above is garbage! The problems you describe as frivOlous are well-known issues, experienced by a vast number of P800 users on this forum alone, as an teeny-weeny search would reveal.

Please do some research before authoritatively dismissing the truth.

The solution to this problem, for those who may be experiencing as I know Mike did for some time, lies in a) removing any trace of CrAppForge and b) ensuring you are using the latest PC Suite - I believe it's 1.5.1 or something similar.

No 1 here too.I have sold my iPAQ. It does everything I want and the software is great with new ones coming all the time. I have the 128 Mb Duo which really expands its envelope of uses. Traffic-i is excellent especially for those of us who use the M25 regularly. I am sure that I will have problems sometime but to date it has been wholly excellent.

Well... the only reason I gave a 2 & 3 was... the well-known triangle-of-death screen. And the Communicam's lack of night-shot at the time which was repaired with R2D onwards.

The P800's base software is far from perfect. SE SW engineers are probably the worst on the planet... well, second to Microsoft perhaps. But thanks to Symbian's UIQ, the P800 is THE best hybrid device on the planet...to date.

Right now, the only thing holding back SE is themselves... poor distribution, lack of availability, lack of accessories, poor marketing ...yes they have poor marketing... for such hype, SE products were hardly seen in 007, and in TND, the JB 888 wasn't available...even as a regular phone... Lara Croft never used the R310s, it was just stuck in her Land Rover...while her other Ericsson got busted cuz it "Got wet" ... Meanwhile, Nokia got more airtime on the X-Files than Scully or Moulder... and shared the scene with Keanu in The Matrix (Samsung may not have been seen in Reloaded, but they sure as hell make full use of Reloaded in their ads)

Right now, aside from software... my main gripe with the P800 is still the same.... IT'S BABY BLUE!!!! WHEN THE #377 IS THE GRAY COVER GONNA BE RELEASED?!?!?!?! And WHY do they insist on baby blue?!??!

About appforge: I installed that god damn crappy sw and about 2 min later i removed it BUT it left a lot of folders files etc.I deleted them all but i noticed one folder in C:\system\apps that could not be deleted called appicker(cause of the app).is that a system file or it bellongs to appforge?does anybody else have it in the system directory?
Thanks

@Mike
I am an "1" surely altough when i was on r1d i had several problems (crashes lack on things i expected from p800).BUT after i upgraded on r2f all problems gone(as yourself mentioned above) and many new things added.I am heavily using my p800 and the only problem after r2f is one screen o'death.i think is it's the best mobile ever and that we must not complain about minor problems (crashes etc) because after all if we consider even a sw like windows after years and years of development and all those money invested still crashes and have major problems.SO we must not expect the 1st mobile phone-PDA
to be perfect!

forgive me, but i have a difficult time understanding why i would feel let down by the p800 when there has never been a SINGLE device that has been able to do all the things the P800 does as well as it does, ESPECIALLY for business use. sure it is far from from perfect, but it is pretty damn good for a first shot. some devices are on their nth-generation already and still stink.

there are always going to be people with problems with their phones. nothing is ever 100%. but i think that the upgrades have been pretty effective, at least in my case. since i've upgraded to r2f, i haven't had the slightest trace of a crash. and to be honest, when i was on r1d, i had quite a few on the first couple of weeks, but almost none after that.

finally, crashes will always happen when you have 3rd party developers trying to do all sorts of things with a given system. we all want more advanced functions, but i think that the trade off is that the more a phone becomes like a computer and everyone has different configurations and/or software installed, then the more it will have similar problems that are encountered on a computer. it probably isn't that long before we will start seeing viruses for phones...

so all in all, yeah there are some shortcomings, some things i would definitely wish would be implemented better either by new software or on the p800 successor. but still i would say i'm a '1'.

Yeah yeah.. it's a nifty little thing there's no doubt.

BUT: if I were, for example, recommending a P800 to someone who was in the market for a PDA, I've have some reservations. Mainly, the packaged software is crap. We pay a premium - as much or more than a good HP or Toshiba Pocket PC, but then we have to pay for some pretty basic utilities that come standard with the MS kit. You want IMing? Buy 12Planet! You want a basic desktop? But Handyday or Tracker! You want some more memory ever though you already have SDram chips lying around like so many broken teeth? Well, get yerself a useless Duo card! The support is dicey at best, with updates only available through service points (feel like I'm in 12th Century England with that one) and I still can't find a decent photo viewer without using that awful booster crapola thing.

I short, I'm almost to the point of replacing an iPaq and an iPod with the p800 but it took some cash and some doing. If I were someone looking for a turnkey solution, I'd be a little bummed with the P800. That said, if you like gadgets and tweaking as a hobby and have some spare cash then it really is a nice device.

Also, SE engineers deserve no blame for any problems mentioned IMHO. They've gone above and beyond. Some of the business decisions, well...

Question maybe for another topic: Will SE survive?

Today is the day I move up to a number 1. I considered myself a number 2 before, but now that I have Bluetooth working (the tip which got me there was to tick every Bluetooth box in Phone Connection Link!) it's NUMBER 1! Woo Hoo!

Heres my story:
I now use my P800 to check my email all day on all 4 of my POP accounts, l log into ICQ & MSN when I'm bored @ Uni & IM with friends, I keep 50-80 Oggs & Mp3s on my 128 MSD & my 16mb is full of games, I take happy snaps all day & have photos of all my friends linked to their details, the Calender has the details of my Uni classes, my Work times + parties etc & all my assignment due dates are in Tasks, I watch full "Friends" episodes on the bus, etc etc & so much more!

How could anyone not love their P800? I love mine even though I've had my problems; it took ages to set up the cradle & BT, my P800 has corrupted itself TWICE & I'm onto my 3rd P800 because of "Early Life Failures". I admit there are glitches along the way, but once you get to the point where u have ur P800 perfectly setup, IT'S GREAT!

Did I mention I'm surfin' Esato using my BT connection right now? Is there a way to check email & use myBuddies etc with the BT connection?

3.
The P800 could've been a great phone. Ultimately it's merely good. It was rushed to the markets by a company in desperate financial trouble. In light of those circumstances earn my compliments. However, I've had the phone since December 24th, 2002 and have the following major issues to mention:

1) As Mike in Switzerland stated the P800 should be more of a business tool than a kiddie toy/show-off gadget. But maybe in their desperation to sell loads of it and help get the company afloat decided that gimmicks come before functions. Hence when you open the flip the first four functions available are communicam, pictures, video and audio.

2) Where's the fax capability? I have to take out my Nokia Communicator (and therefore keep it with me adding to the number of devices one has to carry) in order to send and receive faxes

3) Bluetooth . With the P800 one would think it was 's first attempt at integrating technology in a phone. The T68i runs circles around the P800 in terms of adaptability. I can't get the P800 to work in with my -enabled IBM notebook. It won't work with BMW's in-car system and it even has trouble at times communicating with other phones/devices. All of these things the T68i can do and do successfully.
Sony Ericsson ought to be ashamed.

4) Considering that I've had my phone for over 6 months now should've done a better job of getting fixes for these issues.

5) The phone should be able to send and receive audio/video files wirelessly.

6) If I try to power up the phone in flight mode it asks for my SIM's PIN? WHY?!!! I'm not going to make calls, I want to use it as a PDA!!!

7) Dropped network signals, poor speech/sound quality that others I'm in conversation with complain about.

For a phone with video capabilities utilizing a not-so-widespread format, i.e. MP4, a copy of Mpegable or PV Author should've been bundled with the phone.

I wouldn't trade the P800 for another phone but I wouldn't recommend it to someone intending to buy it for business use.
For those who enjoy the novelty of watching videos on a tiny screen, take mostly useless pictures with the camera and look for MP3's as their ringtones, hey, you're in heaven!!!
