1 BYTE = 8 bits, not the other way around.
If your speed says 1 kbps, that's 1 kilobit, not one kiloBYTE.
If the test claims 1 kbps, that's 1/8 of a KiloBYTE...not 8 kiloBYTES.

From the rate some are reporting it would appear that some carriers employ some kind of proxy to help speed up data transfer.

Really slooowwwwww.... usually under 2kbps. Not very inspiring. No wonder I find CSD and GPRS fairly similar in speed. Both same for me. Anyone wantto venture a guess as to why some of us have such a slow connection while others zip through?

I think it's because they don't invest in the soft and the broadband...i think it has something to do with the gateways allowing data to pass at a certain amount and speed.

Just tested it on my P800 with Vodacom SA Network.

T-Mobile USA advertizes the fastest GPRS equipment. So how come I clock as fast or faster on CSD, and both are under 2.5 Kbps? Neither are an inspiring rate for the premier GSM/GPRS carrier (so they say)!
