well, I can say one thing
I've never been gven hell for hving a P800 turned on
but for some reason this one chick freaked when I turned on my calculator
she was like "OMG!! U'LL KILL US ALL!!!"
and I was like "hoe, it's a calculator"
and she was like "KILLER!! BOMB!!! PLANE!! DIE!! AHHHHH!!!"

ok, I made up the last thing
but she did force me to turn off my calculator

most ppl think the P800 is a PDA
so no worries

Once they see the P800 with the flip and those dial keys then thats a different story!

No wonder! if I saw that thing I would be like RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!! HEs GOT A BOMB. Everyone turns there mobile phones on to ring for help and then the plane crashes!!!!!!!!!!!

Not from the Bomb look a like. form the mobile phone´s nice up the planes GPS system!

Our mobiles can not be received by base stations, but they can!?

I get SMS’s sat there on the tarmac waiting the odd 2 hours for my 'bird to find her slot' as they say!

What’s the big deal about using a PDA during take off, but not after?

What is the impact of using mobile phones on base stations during flight?

So we’ve got a nonprofit group RTCA, investigating this issue.

There's no real difference between takeoff cruise and landing, if the pilot wants he never has to touch the controls, the auto pilot and auto throttle can do it all, right down to landing and putting the brakes on to slow down. t's up to the airline as towhen you can use electronic equipment on their planes, some will even let you use cell phones up until they close the doors before starting the engines, closing the doors arms certain systems on certain aircraft types. A place called ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation, in Montreal, my Dad used to work there, Montreal's great) makes the laws that all civilian air transport operators have to comply with and no cell phones during flight is one, a flight is phase starts from when the engines start and goes to when they shut down. Then it's up to a country's civil aviation authority to enforce the rules but they give each airline their own control over how strict they are but they have to comply with the minimum standards.

With lightening strikes, it might hit anywhere on the plane and usually sounds like someone fired a shotgun next to your ear, it will have and entry point and an exit, usually exits through the sharpest point at the back of the plane, and you can always tell where it hit and where it exits, burn marks and melted rivets, or delaminated carbon fibre at the exit. Planes are electrically bonded for this reason and they build up a static charge as they fly through the air, discharges through the tires on touch down or through discharge wicks on the sharp points like trailing edge of wing tip or fin and elevators.

1. I doubt that a mobile phone would sent a petrol forecourt up in flames, even whilst in use! The P800 has a 3.6v battery! I guarantee on a busy day your average petrol station has 5-10 cars either at a pump or sitting queueing with the engine running! Each car has a 12v battery, and the ones idling will be kicking anything upwards of 45amps out of their alternator!

2. Using a mobile on a plane will give it problems! Was it not the case during 9/11 folk phoned home from their mobiles in some cases! Granted they did go down in flames, but it had sod all to do with their phones, and more to do with a couple of blokes with towels on their heads and beards!

3. Me personally, getting on a plane is the only time i don't have to listen to the incessant ringing on Nokia phones! The mobile silence is bliss!


My question is, do air crew know about the blueberry device, looks like a cheap-ola PDA but it sends emails! Half the PDA's on the market now have a GSM addon! IPAQ, do these users get stopped for example!

The reason why airlines don't allow electronic gadgets is because of the EM fields they give off... a lot of airplanes aren't sheilded against EMF radiation and since the mobile revolution was very recent, airplane manufacturers don't know how these fields affect sensitive navigational equipment.

The thing won't crash the plane... nor will it ignite the fuel. Their main concern is the flight computers which MAY be affected by EMF radiation... considering that the latest generation of GSM phones give off pretty strong digital pulses... it MAY cause processing errors in the flight CPU, slowing down data processing (not causing errors) since the CPU has to keep reprocessing the data.
