you were thinking of getting a XDA-2 (or MDA) in the first place, right? well then get one. the features seem to be what you want. as you can see, all the other detractors' comments here were simply all based according to their own experience or lifestyle or use. and i guess their problems are not yours. so then.... get an XDA-2.

yeah, anybody here can give any comment. if i want to add to your confusion i could even mention the new Sendo-X, which has great features too. or i could even tell you to wait for the P1000 which may surprise everyone and hold on. this may never end. but you originally considered an XDA-2, so be it. with all those good features in an XDA-2... dont worry, it is a good choice.

dw, have you tried pocket pc (now called windows mobile) or do you just hate anything MS without trying? Having used pocket pc since it came out 3 years ago I think its far superior to palm (for example) and certainly better than symbian OS that I tried on the P800.

Also size-wise the xda is a bit thinner than the P900 and just a bit wider so its all relative really

masseur I don't hate/flame Microsoft in general but usually a bit
more specific I should have explained me more but didn't wan't to
start a discussion about that just wanted to give my point of view
why I would go with something else.
I'll explain my view a bit more since you ask and hope ppl keep calm about it.
Microsoft OS ain't the fastest piese of software it usually demands
a faster CPU to come close to the quickness of other OS'es
Looks at the ms smartphones I havent seen a revew on them yet
they have claimed them to be fast even though the cpu in them
are faster then in most other phones.
The reviews I seen have complained over the 'hourglass'
even with the fast cpus in the phones and when they have
that fast cpu its been battery draining to run it so talktime/standby
haven't been especially good.

I'll admit that most of my microsoft experience is from PCs
and that I havent tried this device we are talking about in this
thread. Thats why I have to go with my experience and base
my personal opinion on that.

I guess that the higher weight/size might be that the device needs
a bigger battery to compensate??... but it's just a guess.

As a sidenote the things I'm worried about when it comes to P900
is close to same exept the os it's the weight/batteryperformance
I'm gonna hold off and see what ppl report and then try one in a store
before desiding if I'm gonna get it or not.

Already paid the £15 to get the XDA2 unlocked so I can also put my Orange SIM in it (not yet as it can take upto a week).

I can email a small video clip from the XDA2 if anybody is interested in hosting it.

If your into one hand operation of your phone/PDA ie searching your contact list to make a call & sms messagesthen stick with the P900. Apart from keying in a number and selecting a speed dial, you have to use the stylus/touchscreen to find a contact. Haven't found an option as a speaker phone either yet (not that I need it but some will).

Lol nice phrase Psikey (one handed operation' that definitely should become a P800/900 classic. I never thought of myself as a 'one handed operator' before, sort of thing that seems good to get lots of practice at

Hi Everyone, Not trying to start a flaming war here, but I've posted the below in another similar thread in my local forums.

From what I see, correct me if I am wrong, but Windows CE (Visual Basic API) apps are so much larger in file size as compared to C++ apps for the P800/P900. That's the reason why MS have to force all manufacturers to come with onboard 64MB of RAM to meet the basic requirements. Just like Xscale 400Mhz, cos many of us have already known by now, Intel likes to use higer numbers to lure customers, but after loads of reviews and benchmarks when Xscale was first released, everyone knew by then that Intel is up to it's usual trick again, not against AMD this time round, but against Motorola, NEC ARM and Texas Instruments, by luring potential buyers with higher Mhz... but not necessary better performances.

Thus all in all, WinTel has done it again, one due to large size apps, forced manufacturers to comply to standards with BIGGER amt of RAM, while the other uses HIGHER Mhz to lure potential buyers. This combination sure look very good to non tech savvy buyers and is definitely a win win situation for the both of them since how many of the general consumers are tech savvy enough to know about this fact about MS and Intel (aka WinTel)?

From my personal views, VB apps are in general much larger in file size than those of C++, I am a techincal guy, not programmers, but from P800's experience, VB apps are always bigger and take a good look at appforge itself, almost 1MB just for the booster?

Yes, Windows Media Player is a good software from MS, but does anyone knows the actual file size of this app? If only SE, Symbian and Philips wake up their minds and be a bit more serious about this platform, then this

http://www.digitalnetworks.philips.com/InformationCenter/Global/FArticleSummary.asp?lNodeId=784&channel=763&channelId=N763A2196

may well be the answer for MS Media Player. Check out the Pro version guys, impressive isn't it? I dun understand why are people complaining about multimedia capability of P800 is bad, cos whoever tried (and I am sure many here did) the Camcorder, he/she can not deny that Mhz is NOT all thats important for small screen MP4 playback, and that the 156Mhz P800 processor is definitely powerful enough to do so in full screen 208 x 320. Thus it is not the h/w, but rather the stupid PV Player that is at fault on multimedia part of things!

Sometimes, I just wished that there are some good programmers who can produce a universal benchmark software doing certain similar tasks to compare performances of all 3 platforms, ie, MS Windows CE, Palm OS and Symbian OS.

Unless such a bencmark utility is available to prove otherhwise , I will never be convinced that Windows CE + Xscale = POWER AND PERFORMANCE.

PS : Yes, I do own an XDA prior to my P800, but later ditched it becos of its size and weight.

Cheers

I have also normally stayed away from MS OS on pocket devices for same thinking having always prefered Psion EPOC/Symbian in my devices. When I first bought a PocketPC to replace my Psion 5MX I was very disappointed at performance & built in PDA functions. But, with this harware & a few great Pocket PC apps (not that many great ones for Symbian yet) this really is a pleasure to use. Having now read the review above that I posted as the second link I am even more certain I have bought a great machine. Didn't even know about add on packs & enhanced performance compared to all other Pocket PC's.

Still, as a phone the P800/P900 is better but the phone features of the XDA2 are perfectly adequate for my needs. Also now know how to get speakerphone working
