Well yes, but I'm sure there are applications for it. Chatting up a stranger anonymously... and I'm sure it would be incredibly popular with kids, especially as it would be free. Which is probably why it hasn't been included
P.S. just had a thought which kinda proves my point - look at in-office emailing. People often much prefer to email someone 2 metres away from them than talk. I think short-range sms might well be the same.

There is support for messaging in the Object Push Profile. It says:
"Messaging applications must support data exchange using the vMessage content format. ... If a device does not have a messaging
application it does not have to support the vMessage content format."
It seems that SMS, MMS and email does not qualify as a messaging application
, as the T68i does not allow to send these via Bluetooth.
So I have not seen anything use this

Yes, sending messages over bluetooth would be usefull. Ie. when you got in range of your house, the fridge could send you a message, that it was out of milk. Or your PC could forward your mail to your phone.
When you stop by your friend, who is unfortunately out, you could leave a message on his house's BT access point.
How about leaving a message in you own house's acces point for your kids when they get home? They'll probably notice that before a piece of paper on the floor (and it could contain a new ringtone for their mobiles, to keep them happy)
I think we just have to crank up the imagination a little here

The BT specification has a "Cordless Telephony profile" for use at home over normal telephone lines. This could be bluetooth only phones, bluetooth and cellular, and it could be a PC. All connecting to a Plain Old Telephone (with Bluetooth, maybe not so plain)
BT also has an "Intercom Profile" for use between phones.
However none of the current phones on the market support any of that... Its really quite sad.
I hear it might be because the mobile carriers are afraid of loosing money on both profiles, and are pressuring the phone companies.
Don't really believe it though.

I had a pretty rare phone (hyundia 610e - which is actually CDMA), and i had a visor platnium. There was absoluatly no way that i could connect them.....i could not find the right cables ANYWHERE
so i ended up buying a t39 - yes i had to change network - and then bought a SONY clie PDA - for which i had to buy a f**** expensive BT adpater for (they're only out in japan ATM) - and now everything works fine!

Nokia 7650 doesn't support bluetooth headsets. It doesn't have a bluetooth headset profile. It actually pales in comparison with P800 or even with T68/T68i.

Bhaal - very interesting post.
On a phone such as the 7650 is the software versatile enough to be able to program something like an intercom mode, or is it only possible to program low level front-end stuff such as games?
