Excuse me, but I dont know what a firmware is. Can anyone please tell me? What does anyone mean by a r10-something? Is that a hardware or a software for T610?

However, doing it yourself is about 30-40 bucks, and it voids your phone warranty. Still, it is worth not talking to the stupid SE service people. GOD I HATE THAT SERVICE CENTER!!!!!!
I'm going to update the firmware at home rather than go through those idiots.

well i have the latest firmware and i've noticed a big difference from the R1L i had before.

boot time is much faster (i can use the menu within 3 seconds of puting my pin in)

java is ammazingly faster, so much so that qbert is officially impossible, but this makes better games (like puzzlebubble) much better becuase they run at a decent speed.

there's one less step in sending a txt. when you click send, theres a new option before phone number called contacts which lets you search straight away.

when playin back recorded files they are played out loud.

and i;m sure there are loads of other fixes which i have yet to notice!

I am in the US using at&t wireless GSM on my T616. I've been happy with this phone (very much so) since I got it last October. Starting this week though the reception at my house has been terrible. I'm running firmware R1A054 which is apparently quite old. What is the more current firmware for T616 on AT&T GSM in the US? Thanks in advance for any help you can give this esato newb. It's my first SE phone, and has surpassed Nokia as my fav. manufacturor!

Does anybody know if its a rumour or not, About SE will put the T630 firmware onto the T610 (Excluding the LCD software, to add things like My Friends). A lot like they did with the T68 to upgrade to the T68i (Even though the hardware was the same)
Most likely a rumour though

i wouldn't be surprised if some clever guy with nothing to do manages to do it himself. all you have to do is find what part of the firmware is for the screen and then switch that with that of the t610. and then put the t630 firmware onto a t610. it's much harder than it sounds but it's possible i think.

or you could get the new screen, put it in the t610 and then the t630 firmware, so you'll basically have upgraded to a t630 but with a nicer cover.

btw, i've defiantely noticed an improvement in reception with R6B. my bar is almost always green now which is rare. of course this also increases batteyr life. definaatley upgrade if you have the chance!!

Sorry for another newb question, but I didn't see an answer to this in the FAQ.

If you get the firmware upgraded, do you still have all your phone settings, or does it all get set to factory default?

TIA,
Bill

Depends. If you just get it upgraded, your settings will be there, along with your pics and stuff

If you flash to generic firmware (generic GDFS file), everything is gone
