So I had a little more time to play with this tonight and I found some huge ways to improve things. First, I went ahead and finished cutting off the rest of the plastic on the bottom half of the battery. This allowed for a little more space inside. Then I retaped the battery with electrical tape and put it back in the phone. Now I have enough room to keep the MS Duo on top of the battery. This is big b/c now i don't have to turn off my phone to switch memory cards. Here's what it looks like now.

You can see half way down the battery where the plastic ends and it dips down. Anyway, this is a big improvement for practical use. Here it is all closed up.

So far so good. No ill effects as of yet. I've been storing a card by the battery for a day now with no problems with the battery, phone, or memory card.

@getagrip15,

very impressive, guy. btw, you do not need to turn off the phone to switch duo card. i just got my 128M and i swap it a few times with the phone on, no problem here.

Yeah, you can change memory card whilst the phone's on. If you do it in music player, once the new memory card is plugged in it updates the track listing - G e n i o u s!

thought i would add a little spice to the memory card thang...

Flash Memory Card Survives Coffee Dunk Test
BBC News reports that current flash memory cards are virtually indestructible. In their web article "Digital Memories Survive Extremes" they describe how five memory card formats survived being boiled, trampled, washed and dunked in coffee or cola.

Despite their tests findings, I strongly discourage experiments like these being conducted at home!

Check out the picture below of flash memory cards getting the spaghetti treatment!
