Betamax? 20 years too late...msduopro? Memory sticks are still in their relative infancy.

Vlammetje, what do you mean, "elitist attitude"? Average joe walks into phones4u and buys a nokia. Average jane walks into phones4u and buys a samsung clamshell. People who know a little about what they want, who want something with substance, might choose over either. Whats elitist about knowing the best product for you?

average joe and jane over here also run around with K700 phones

thanks to vodafone (for the largest part) and one TV commercial at prime time that has actually had some small impact

people seriously dont believe that every se buyer is some sort of phone guru do they
t610 £99 on pay as you go that aint no guru price i think there is an i am cleverer than you attitude with se.
i think the average buyer walks into a shop and buys the phone they like the look of or one there friend has and they have had a play around onand liked it.
lets not forget most phone buyers do 2 to 3 things max with there phone 1 make calls 2 send text manybe 3 take pics and send them
yes people on this site do a lot more but we are a very very small segment of the mobile phone industry. loads of people in the uk have t610 and lots are starting to appear with k700 and i will bet 90% of them never get close to even using 50% of what the can do

No, nobody thinks that everyone with a is a phone guru. But the ones that post here are at least making an effort to be savvy about their phone.

i agree people who post here do tend to be a bit more clueed up and use there phone probably closer to it max potential. but we are a very very small percentage of the overall market. lets face fact we are a very small percentage of se total sales.
i dont know how many members there are on esato but i will bet it would be under 10% of the phones that se shift world wide.
and probably around 1% of total phone sales (all companies). this site doesnt really represent the average phone buyer, it represents the geeks of the phone world

I think Nokia are the Man U of the phone world, they are the biggest (and to a few the best )
Where as the rest of the phone companys are like the rest of the premiership.
All those who dont support Man U/Nokia hate them more than anyother club and want them to do bad each season (which lately they have )

The biggest edge Nokia have over other manufacturers is brand recognition. When Nokia first started producing mobile phones they were, ironically, in a similar position to SE today. Motorola was the dominant force, but customers 'defected' to Nokia because they saw them as offering something new and innovative. Nokia now find themselves in Motorola's old position, with smaller companies releasing more innovative products.

Nokia mobiles are not, on the whole, awful, rather they are adequate. Many customers expect a great deal from their mobile now and adequate just doesn't cut it anymore, this was my point regarding more advanced markets; customers are demanding more. Nokia has gained a reputation in certain circles as being 'basic' and 'simple', most Nokia customers appear to buy Nokia because they either know little about mobile phones but recognise Nokia or because they want something cheap, there doesn't appear to be much 'love' for the brand. Compare this with SE, which have inspired a website and discussion forum with close to fifty thousand members from around the world. Nokia needs to inspire that same level of commitment.

agreed with u on Nokia being complacent with their offering. but lately, it has been changing with the new 6260, 6630, 9300 and some 5 more high handsets yet to be announced.

disagree with you on this. Nokia has the widest range on offer. some may be "basic" but there is nothing mediocre about the series 60 range (6600,7610,6630,6260). as i have said before, SE has nothing that even come close in this segment.

your assertion about most Nokia customers is superfluous. Nokia is going to sell some 8-10 million high-end smartphones this year and that's a lot people you are labelling as "mindless".
