okay, i have sucessfully installed xp and the computer is running perfectly! thanks everyone for the help!!!!

okay @GOwin, now i want to go download linux, do i just download it? will it partition automatically? or do i have to do it?

It depends what version of Linux you choose. I like Mandrake Linux, or 'Mandriva Linux' as they now call it:

This comes with an installer that is not unlike the Windows XP one, it does all of the partitioning for you

if i want to install linux and windows... and i downloaded linux while on MS, do i have to burn the install/iso file, or can i just click the ISO file from M$ and let it go?

You need to burn a CD to install it.

It would be nice if the ISO you got is also a live CD. This would allow you to check out the distro without having to install them in your hard drive.

and also... how do i burn an ISO file to a CD? i know there is a special way to do it...

a live CD is a bootable linux distribution that allows you to test drive a particular distro, before you install them.

this is fully working OS with lots of applications - not just a demo you can watch.

if you like what you've tried, you can then install it to your computer.

download an ISO and use a cd writing softare (like Nero) to burn it.

well linux shoudl be sending me a CD soon... so should i wait for that CD to get here rather than burning it?

does anyone know how to delete everything off a computer and start like its new without using the boot CD? like doing a master reset on a phone, but for windows xp?
