hi all, I arrived early at work this morning to find a memo from my network\\employer tell us that they are aware of a number of Gs5's being returned to stores due to the lens\\ glass of the camera cracking. Samsung have said they are aware of this and only affects a small number of defective devices and is caused by either impact (customer damage) or the rear of the phone being placed on an un even surface in which the camera has more pressure applied on that the rest of the device. Customers are told that an exchange will take place if that happens but only inside the first 28 days of purchase then it must be repaired free of charge if proven to be faulty.
Has anyone else seen or heard of this with the S5 would be interesting to hear how wide spread or isolated this is.

Just found this on Android Central some customers admit to dropping the phone but others have no idea how the camera lens got smashed.

Nope. People tend to cry wolf when they drop their phones and expect it to not break and then blame the manufacturer for it breaking. Unbelievable. Or if they drop it they tend to lie and say I didn't do anything.

@bono the network I work for wouldn't release a statement if there wasn't an issue with the glass in the camera cracking. I've been working in mobile retail now for almost 9 years and very rarely does anything like this happen. In virtually all cases where a screen/camera is smashed you tend to see an impact point or scuff/chips in the paintwork. Samsung themselves are even exchanging or repairing devices with this problem providing there is no impact damage or any other form of Human error that has caused the glass in the camera to smash.

These things do happen yes but sometimes people do drop their phones and damage it themselves. And no Samsung is not the only manufacturer who's had issues ie Slowny sorry Sony.

I never once said other manufacturers haven't had a quality issues they all have at some point I was stating the issue that is affecting some GS5 users thats all. But yet you bash Sony again on a Samsung thread yes you've had issues with Sony but no need to keep telling everyone about it.
I've always been positive on all threads and have never had any beef with any member and and always respected their opinion your's included but c'mon Bono time to let it go eh.
Peace.
