How do you know thats a LED ? It doesnt look like one to me, and if it was its in a pretty odd place that cannot be seen when looking at the face of the phone.

If it is a LED, its not likely to be a network or Bluetooth LED. It would probably glow red to tell you that the keypad is locked or something. Another possibility is that it might be a Memory Stick LED that flashes red and green while the Duo is being read / written to. However, you'd expect to see that next to the Duo port.

The other possibility is that its just part of the prototype phone, and wont appear in the final unit. In the final unit, the buttons will have symbols, the directional pad will have pointers, and will be back lit. Its the same with the K700's shutter slot. Since SE decided to remove the shutter, the large hole at the top rear of the phone still exists, but will it be filled in before the final release ? i hope so !

Anyway, until we see that little thing lit up we wont know if it is a LED, we'll have to wait and see. Would a status LED put you off buying the phone ?

Nope, i dont care... thouhgt it could a status led, since its in the same place on the z600... maybe it only lids red when battery is low like on t610/30 & z200 ... dont know... i think its more interresting with the strange switch... i want to know what it is... the whitepaper says nothing... but why on the earth will they give u the opportunity to choose btw light or a key.. a bit strange, isnt it? but i will buy it asap... and i dont care about the switch and led or not.. just wondered if anybody knew what it was.. it has irritated me since the day it was first announced...

I never really noticed it before, i tend to ignore tiny things like that.

The slider is probably just a keylock like pressing MENU * on other phones, except with the S700, you need the slider since some of the time the keypad isnt visible when the phone is closed (theres no * key on the top half). The key meaning locked, the bulb meaning the phone is unlocked and ON.

And/or the bulb means that the light on the screen is on
