That is sad news actually because its a wasted opportunity, I don't see what could be appealing about this XZ2S/XZ3 unless it gets a new design. The only good thing is that we get a price cut on the XZ2 line.

Seems they are atleast a year behind the whole mobile industry. Mostly everyone wants dual cam and oled display with minimum bezels these days... But Sony might reach that level next year whereas almost everyone is at that level already.

archdragoon - if this is indeed true and not some sony staff trying to throw you off the scent, then it is sad indeed. they are taking a step backwards and shouldn't be able to call this next device a "flagship" by any means. Flagship means having the best of the best of the company's technology. The flagship tag should be reserved for the premium series alone.

They are wasting their time if they are pushing out a device with similar/slightly improved tech to the xz2 and expect people to pay close to $1000 (guessing here) for it, just 6 months after the xz2 was released.

They need to clean up their act otherwise, despite having "world's first" features on their phones, they will be forgotten as the industry moves forward. this is like the mp3 revolution and sony decided to be different and stick with their superior technology and then lost the edge they had in personal audio entertainment. you'd think they learned enough of a lesson from that fiasco... perhaps not.

so we seem to be getting conflicting rumours... I want to believe that it will have a dual cam, but bitter experience has taught me that Sony loves to disappoint, so I think your rumour is more likely to be the correct one. Kinda shocking if they release another single cam flagship after recognising they have been too slow and literally every other competitor has dual cams now (except google, but even the new pixel is rumoured to have that), with many now implementing triple cameras...

As badassmam said, without the dual cams what will differentiate from XZ2? Other than more useless gimmicks like 3D face scanner, or things which very few people will actually use, like 4K HDR recording and hi res audio.

Sony concentrate too much on pushing boundaries and getting world firsts (which is respectable), but they fail to perfect the basics and offer a complete package.

There are two options..
Device is a full hd version of premium or just a XZ2 polished ( like Z2 to Z3).

How will they fit dual cam inside Compact when they could not put DVS in xz2c nor the 13MP selfie in Xc and XZ1c?

That makes sense why they can use exclusive unveiling. Sony is in pole position in that department. Their new X1 Ultimate, which apparently will be named X1 Ultra is going to blow the competition out of the water. They will unveil Microled 8K as well as the successor to the Z9D and A1E with the new X1 Ultra processor.

I don't think anyone expects they will fit dual cam in compact, just in regular XZ2 sized device - not only in some giant XZ2 Premium sized thing that you need two people to move around
