Sony Mobile CEO targets profitability in 2013 fiscal year, expects over 34 million units sold
Sony plans to make its mobile- device business profitable next fiscal year as it boosts shipments of smartphones, the head of the unit said.
The maker of Xperia handsets and tablets plans to sell more than 34 million smartphones in the year beginning April 1, Kunimasa Suzuki, chief executive officer of the unit, told reporters in Tokyo today, without giving a more specific figure. The company said last month it’s targeting 34 million shipments this fiscal year.
"Sony needs to sell about 50 million smartphones to rank third, behind Apple and Samsung,” said Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at Ace Securities Co. “I think Sony has the ability to achieve it, but if it can’t reach 50 million, it will fade and become irrelevant.”
Sales of the model topped 160,000 units in Japan in the two weeks after it was introduced Feb. 9, Sony said in a presentation today, citing a survey by NTT DoCoMo Inc. (9437), the nation’s largest wireless carrier. It was Japan’s top-selling smartphone in the three weeks started Feb. 4, Sony said, citing researcher Keitai Watch

We have a few more details on the Sony Xperia L which has model number C210X (C2104, C2105, S36h) and is codenamed TaoShan. We already know that the Xperia L will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset with 1GHz dual-core processor and Adreno 305 graphics from a previous benchmark.
A reliable source has revealed that it will sport a 4.3-inch FWVGA resolution (480 x 854) display with virtual buttons. It will incorporate an 8MP Exmor RS camera sensor, 8GB of internal storage, microSD memory card support and a 1700mAh capacity battery. The dimensions are expected to be 128.7 x 65 x 9.7mm. The handset will launch with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. We would expect the Xperia L to be announced at the same time as the Sony Xperia SP (C530X), but we don’t have any firm announcement dates as of yet.

Xperia SP and Dogo to be announced before the end of March.
And the big news is that the 6.44" phablet is supposed to have WQXGA (2560×1600) display

Nice. Do you know build materials? If Sony doesn't release a full metal phone this year I'll be very disappointed
