You're not wrong about that beautiful sky tonight. I was looking in your direction (SE) from up here in East Angrier and I captured a lovely typical English mid February sky.
Here's another one of my eldest and the mutt, taken on Saturday, on the beach at Caister-by-the-Sea. Take a look and see what you think?
Just a couple of questions, bearing in mind that I've looked at hundreds of photo's from the w800i in the past few weeks before deciding to purchase this phone.
On this and other forums, I've seen much better, less noisy, grainy, in a word...........finer pics than this one I've just uploaded. Am I expecting too much from, what is after all, a mobile phone that just happens to have a packaged 2mp camera. (I had a 2mp camera about 6 years ago that didn't suffer with the graininess of the w800i). As you can see from the shadows, perfect light, sun behind me, settings on auto, max resolution, fine setting, pretty steady hand............I hadn't partaken %-) !
It would be useful for people posting pics to state what settings they had used, whether they had been 'improved' in any way, time of day, steadiness of hand...etc.
I'm chuffed to bits with the phone, the walkman alone makes it worth the purchase and I have an excellent digital camera to take those really 'important' pictures, but I'd just like to know how you lot have taken such quality photos?
TIA ellis

@ellis - a very good choice of phone if i might say so
The camera does have it's limitations but in good light situations it performs extremely well for a 2mp camera phone.
I have found that i get better results changing the white balance based on the conditions I'm in, it's a bit hit and miss sometimes, general rule of thumb for me is to use the cloudy setting unless it's clear and bright, indoors it depends on what artificial light there is in the room and nightmode whenever i think it needs it (quite often).
The pictures picture taken this evening were set to cloudy, if it had been any darker this evening I probably would have selected night mode and maybe auto white balance. It is possible to see the differences between the settings when viewing the scene prior to taking the shot.
Some of my pictures suffer from a little noise. I have a little software package that I use from time to time to take the noise out. I used it quite a lot with my k700, only occaisionally with the w800.
The w800 uses a cmos lens and although very good, your 2mp digital camera probably had a CCD type which would in most cases produce better results. A CCD lens would require more room, so I suppose it's a bit of a trade off for compactness that the w800 has.
I think your picture looks pretty good, it's a nice shot
I may have altered the brightness/ contrast a little, but thats a personal choice thing.
When using the autofocus what did you focus on ?

I've read the 'hit and miss' statement before and, believe me, I really can live with it. Auto Focus was pretty much as it say's.......I let the camera automatically focus. I know that if you press the plunger without letting the camera make up it's own mind you'll get more sharpness in the picture.
Here are my clouds, looking SW (I think I said SE earlier!!!!)
Like I say, I have my phone with me everywhere I go, whereas, I simply don't have room for my digital camera. I already have 400 odd pictures that I've taken with the SE, whereas I'm a hell of a lot more selective with my digital camera. I'm more than willing to make the trade-off.
I think someone said it earlier in this post that they find it a real pleasure being able to view pictures from around the World, sometimes literally seconds after they've been taken. I second that wholeheartedly.
Thanks for your help mate.

@ellis - your welcome mate
Regarding the autofocus, using the picture of your son and dog as an example ( but not trying to tell you how to suck eggs mate) I'm no expert but I would have pointed the camera at him, autofocused on him then moved between your son and dog whilst keeping the button pressed with the green box still showing and then took the shot.
I tend to use this technique whenever I want something in the foreground in focus even if it's not dead centre of the shot. The background usually takes care of itself.
Nice picture of the clouds by the way
@walstoned - welcome to esato, shame your picture was blured
@marcosbrito2 - nice pictures
Some shots taken whilst out walking my dog

@marlonski: I do like the time&date feature but totally hate it on this phone. It comes out so fuzzy which makes it so distracting. If only it had been more clearer
@marcobristo2: Thos pictures are very beautiful. Very striking with completely fleshed out colours.
Here are two recent photos taken by me from the terrace of my house. First one looking west and the second one towards east. Do bear with my amateurness as I am still trying to come to grips with this phone.
