1. The TyTN as far I know cannot render HTML emails
2. Once you start to use 3G for web browsing the experience means you'll want to do more and therefore a cheap data package will be important
3. Missing a few payments does not affect your credit rating, if you have say 10 loan applications or credit cards in the last 12 months then that will affect your rating
4. Check T-mobile coverage in your area, seems to vary a lot. I'm lucky I have 3G most of the time

Thanks for that Jah.
1) Wouldn't mind not having HTML emails, don't get so many - and the ones I do tend to be junk
2) Absolutely, cheap data package imperative - as per my post just above, just been quoted £7.50 unlimited usage as an add-on to 2 packages
3) All I have done is miss 3 payments - 2 on a credit card and 1 on a store card, and my credit rating has dropped from 'Excellent' to 'Poor' - I paid to get my file. In the process of arguing it, but figured it might make a new contract tricky?
4) I will check coverage now - very good point, thanks!

OK, so on further inspection the packages themselves are equal to the Dolphin 25 & 35 packages, which isn't great BUT they're throwing in a free phone/£64.99 phone AND unlimited data usage - which isn't supposed to be included with those packages.
Anyone think if I went for the £35p/m one I'd be able to wangle free insurance? Don't think I could cope with a bill higher than £42/month...!!

I think a free handset is a very good deal as it is. I believe you can reduce your tariff after 9 months to say the UKP25 option. Insurance is difficult as not all home contents insurance policies cover 'portable expensive devices', you could always cancel the insurance after a few months if you find your home cover is adequate.

Yay - done the deal! Tried to improve on it but they couldn't push it any further, and on the third time of phoning there was no record of the deal and it took a stupid long time on hold for them to figure it out. Eventually got a supervisor who said it was a new package componenent, not many of them knew about it yet, and that it shouldn't really have been applied to my tariff, but they'd honour it, and they'd also give me the 'Magic number' thing, where you nominate an Orange mobile or landline to receive unlimited free calls to.
So, my final deal is:
Free M3100 handset
£35/month package with 550 minutes and unlimited text
£7.50 a month for unlimited data usage
Magic number (which'll be great for all the time me and my partner phone eachother - guess it'll be me doing all the phoning now!
Anyway, I'm happy with that. Makes my monthly bill £42.50, which it often was anyway, and I've got the handset for nothing. Will probably add insurance, but will check out partners home insurance just in case.
All excited, it arrives Tuesday morning! Just hoping for a non-faulty one... Thanks all for your advice so far!

@Libby24 that is a very good deal you got!

I was thinking of leaving orange once the P990i is available, (tried a friends SPV M3100 and its not for me) and change to o2, as they put minimal branding on their phones, but as the unlimited data plan still seems to be available, l can probably live with with the branding. I too thought the unlimited data plan finished being available at the end of august and that it was only offered to people on the panther and premier tariffs, see
http://www1.orange.co.uk/ow1/ so is good to see you got it on a different animal tariff.

I think the TYTn is also buggy. I have the HT628xxx batch and have the screen alignment issue. It seems like a software issue rather than hardware as sometimes it's fine.
Also, my phone keeps losing it's RingTone Settings.
This is the worst issue i have, every night for the last couple of days, my phone would just crash and i can't do anything other than to reset it......But when it's crashed, if someone tries calling, they would hear a ringingtone but the phone will not ring. then when i reset it, there is no indication of any missed/recieved call... so i dont even know how many calls i missed.
I have the Voda v1605.....

The funny thing is when an SE Update is available for your phones you all run and flash it (a very tricky process), but when the most simplest and effective update is available for your tytn....well you all ignore it and still complain about the screen alignment.
As far as I can tell now the screen alignment problem was software related on mine and since updating with the latest dopod firmware I have since to see it replicate itself.
