There are some differences between the device shown in this thread and the "official" pictures

instead of blue rectangle we can see on X1 mini website "fn"
instead of smiley there is a "ctrl" button
last instead of windows button there is an "esc"...
*-)

Itīs one more button, between "caps" and "z". Looks like "@"

Precisely my thinking. You can't have aGPS without having GPS of some kind.

It's kind like of like HSUPA. If you have that, the assumption is that you also have HSDPA.

I'm thinking... the phone handset can assist a seperate GPS receiver by giving it cell-based positioning information from an aGPS server, thus reducing computation, and speeding up time-to-fix. I think it will also help in partial-signal situations.

I'd love to believe that the X1 has built in hardware GPS, but I find it too good to be true, especially given the compact size of the unit, the other functions they've squeezed in, and the fact they have been very quiet about GPS.

Until I hear from someone who has used the phone that it has a built in GPS, and that they've seen it running, then I'm going to assume it requires an external GPS receiver

Beats the N96, LG's new QWERTY, and Samgung's G810 in terms of consumer appeal. Very exciting week for SE, and there's still more to come!

Does it?, in which way exactly.

Indeed, we shall see.

However, ever since the first N95 FW update, it has been largely advertised as "only" having aGPS.

Another point is that the W760's specs page on SE.com doesn't even mention GPS. So I think it's too early to draw conclusions of any kind given it's just syntax at this point.

so this is what engadget says about the X1, after a short hands on
When we saw the XPERIA X1 announced yesterday we pretty much flipped our collective geeky lids, this handset is the stuff mobile dreams are made of. There is nothing to gripe about here and while our play date was short-lived -- and very supervised -- we did get a chance to peek at the rather unfinished UI, fit and finish, and did we mention the frickin' screen on this phone? Wah! It's like paper. This handset just can't come soon enough -- for those of you not listening earlier, that'll be late Q2 -- but until then you'll just have to live with pics.

I have problems seeing alot of "serious" users using the X1, I think they'll find this phone to have too much of a bling-bling character.

Don't forget the HTC "Touch" devices. They are Windows Mobile but include "iPhone" style features.

I think major functionality (Windows Mobile) coupled with great multimedia skills (Xperia) will result in an awesome device.

I really like this sort of package in my Touch Dual.

Quite right Coxy, this is a great device for sure, but TBH it is a HTC device with an SE badge stuck on the front

I'm not sure what you mean by that. HTC made Treos for Palm and many other phones for various companies before selling there own branded phones-did anyone ever call a Treo an HTC device? This is not a TyTNII rebranded by SE with some new software on it. The X1 is an entirely new phone designed by SE and manufactured for them by HTC (perhaps). Many companies, including Apple and Dell, use contractors to manufacture their products based on their own specifications. Does that mean that your PowerBook is actually a Quanta? No, of course not, so why would you make such a blatantly untrue statement here?

If SE chooses to let HTC use their own production criteria and tolerances when manufacturing the X1 then that is their own fault and they will have to live with the consequences. However, if they treat HTC like the contract manufacturer they are, then they will impose their own standards and tolerances on this phone which HTC must match. Don't forget, HTC makes their phones the way they do not because they are incapable of making them better but because that is the decision they made to balance cost and profits. If someone else is paying them to make the phones then they are obligated to meet those standards.

The HW is all HTC, that's a plus in my book, smart move by SE to get HTC to do all the hard work and allow themselves to take all the plaudits.
Come on, an SE with WM on board, hardly takes hercule poirot to suss out it's origins!!
